Frankly, I don't appreciate having to wait on line - sometimes 5 minutes or more = to have the security guard mark my receipt as a requirement to exit the store, after I have completed and paid for my purchase. I'm monitored by cameras and personnel within the store. Why should I be expected to expend more minutes of my limited lifespan to prove I in fact paid for my purchase? Perhaps I'm mistaken or sensitive, but, is the onus on me to prove I've paid for my items in order to exit the store? Please help me understand. Do we (customers) have a legal, moral or ethical obligation to wait on line at the exit, after waiting in line at the register, after waiting in the lot for a parking space? Can someone please help me to put this into perspective, because I seem to be losing minutes of my life, several times a day unnecessarily inconvienenced. Understand the only reason I enter these stores is to make purchases e.g. spend money. So I find this practice particularly annoying.

That is the practice of the company nationwide. They offer a lot of benefits and discounted items to you in the first place, and they can choose how they want to run their business.

If you feel it is a timely and unnecessary process, why go. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR A MEMBERSHIP to shop at Costco, so by doing so, you are in essence saying you agree to their terms of business. If you don't like it, stop paying them and go to Wal-Mart instead, where you don't have to pay for a membership.

Also, I don't get how waiting to have your purchases checked is a waste of time, but complaining about it on the internet must constitute putting your time to good use. At least if you want to complain, complain to the company you have an issue with, because they are more likly to address your problem then a bunch of strangers on the internet.

You need to leave New York and move to Montana. We have no sales tax here and we don't pay for gas before we pump it. Also we never have to stand in any line to leave a store for any security to sign anything. We have alot of freedom, such as people are still allowed to smoke in bars and casinos, and some restaurants, like truck stops. We don't have huge city's full of millions of people, except Billings, MT is the biggest city. We have fresh air to breath and a big beautiful sky you can actually see with many mountains and trees around and fresh water lakes and streams and lots of camp grounds in the mountains. Might I add we have beautiful wide open prairie land for people who prefer this life style like me. We are behind time here so style is never an issue. A pair of jeans and a T-shirt are great for going out to dinner in. Also our cost of living is much cheaper than most places so our homes are cheaper. You will not feel like you are loosing minutes of your life because everything here is slow paced. You will have lots of time for everything and the stars are beautiful at night. Just thought I would tell you that life does not have to be like that. I lived in San Diego, CA, and Seattle, WA, so I have experienced the big city life and would never go back to it.

Our country is run by corporations and they can do whatever they want.

That said, Cosco, and especially the one you are talking about, is a community-conscious organization which gives part-time workers health-care and education benefits and pays their workers better than minimum wage.

Ethically and morally speaking they are a thousandfold better than the evil that is Walmart.

It's a way to ensure that you don't walk back into the store later and pick up those same items you bought earlier and walk back out and if stopped pull out your receipt form earlier and be like see, I bought this, it is especially important on big price things, cause when I have walked out of places like that with unimportant items, they just mark it and I am on my way, I could easily slip something in that doesn't have a thing to set the beepers off and they would be none the wiser.

you joined their "private club" when you paid for membership.
their rules of conduct apply- if this upsets you...vote with your feet and leave.
This happens at Fry's Electronics as well, but they are "just" a store- no membership required.
I do tend to give these "exit checkers" a tough time when I leave ... what are they going to do?

Yes, if you shop with them, you have to follow their rules. They must have a lot of shoplifting to enact something like this. The criminals ruin it for us all as usual.

The answer is pretty basic really....take your business somewhere else if you don't like how this store is treating you. If enough people did that, the store would soon change their policy.

Oh grow up!

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T SHOP THERE!

Not rocket science!
I don't have a problem with it.. but then again, I'm not a jackhole.
