Can you recommend some great (not too long) books you've read?
Especially any ones that your school English teachers made you read, that were worth reading.
Thanks!
Here is my list of 'English teacher' books that I like:
The Outsiders (I loved it!)
Fahrenheit 451 (great quotes/lines in it!)
A Policeman calls (possibly the best play I know)
The Catcher in the Rye
The Kite-runner
Q and A
Montana 1948
Of Mice and Men

Jasper - thanks for your suggestions! I'd love to read more S.E.Hinton (The Outsiders author). I've just requested the two books you mentioned from the library, as well as the Illustrated Man (by Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451).

Someone mentioned: The Giver and The Diary of Anne Frank - great books!
I also loved Homecoming (Cynthia Voigt). And Winter of Fire (Sheryl Jordan. My favourite book once upon a time).

My grade 11 English teacher handed me a copy of Martian Chronicles and agrued down my whiny complaints of not liking science fiction, or stupid have to read novels and told me to read...He was a smart man and was right...I did enjoy it...a lot. I also really enjoyed the novel we had to read in Grade 10 called the Chrysalids and To Kill a Mockingbird (one of my all time favorite books).

Those are the same books I liked when I was a teenager. For required reading, I also liked The Anne Frank Diary, That Was Then This Is Now (also S.E. Hinton), Tex (S.E. Hinton), this was a strange one but good...The Illustrated Man (maybe Alfred Hitchcock?). Happy reading....also enjoyed Animal Farm by George Orwell.

let me think on the books I had to read in school...hm.
All Creatures Great and Small
Rebecca
Night
The Outsiders
1984
Brian's Winter
Where The Red Fern Grows
I had to read more than that...but can't remember them. But these are books that I did read in school that I still love to this day.
The Giver
The Beggers' Ride
The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
The Hounds of The Baskervilles
The Genesis Code
Gone With The Wind
I can't recall any other ones...but I remember having to read White Fang and I hated that book lol. But I read a lot of books in school...I wish I owned a library XD.
