I'm constantly trying to grow my nails but just as they get to a decent length one of them breaks! I use a strengthening product but it still happens. Is there a product that I can use to 'glue' the nail so that, with polish on, it looks like the others? I don't want to wear false nails.

This might sound daft, but have you tried running a sliver of superglue along the crack !-

You don't say what you do for a living because your job can cause nail breakage. It doesn't mean you should change your work. Clear nail polish and rubber or latex gloves can help. If you have an allergy to latex, vinyl can help. Good diet helps alot too/I wear heavy duty rubber gloves when I clean house. It really helps and I noticed the changes. Use non acetone nail polish remover too, much gentler on the nails. Oil manicures are a treat and on a budget can be done at home. just dont burn your fingers and use a test stick to test the heat. Hope this helps

Hi- I have split and brittle nails too so am interested in what other products people recommend- however I have noticed when I take evening primrose tablets that my nails grow quicker and are of a better condition that normal- so whilst you are witing to find the right product ( me too) try taking some EPO tablets- you can get them from any herbal shop, chemist, or supermarket ( supermarkets are cheaper)- oh and I do massage vitamin e oil into them too to hydrate them.

go buy a little tube of the cheap glue that they sell for like $4 at drug stores to put on fake nails.

Have you ever had your nails sculpted? Where they put the acrylic directly on your nail and there's no gluing tips and stuff? It's really natural feeling/looking and they usually last forever. Unless you are a waitress!

Sally Hansen - Hard as Nails. Follow the instructions, it works a treat and doesn't break the bank. You can get it in Boots, Superdrug, etc. X

You can try nail glue to mend your nail & then buff it a bit to smooth the surface before applying nail polish to seal it.

Here are some other ways to care for your nails:

Do not use a nail clipper. Only use a nail file to shape and shorten them. Protect your nails with thicker moisturizers to protect them from exposure to water which dries them out & makes them brittle.

Try Revlon's disposable files made for weak nails. File in one direction only. Start on one side and file towards the middle, then go to the other side and file towards the middle of your nail. Smooth the nail into a squoval that mirrors you cuticle or the shape of the white part of your nail bed.

Finish the edges of the nail with a hindo stone, a smooth ceramic/stone nail file or the finest grit nail file you can find. You want to make the edges really smooth.

Also, avoid using metal nail files. I recommend using disposable nail files and changing them frequently. The fresher the grit, the less the drag which leads to tearing and peeling.

I also use a cuticle balm or nail oil to moisturize my nails and protect them from water since I wash my hands frequently.
(ex. Solar Oil, OPI Avoplex)

Vit E oil, jojoba oil, Aquaphor Healing Ointment, Vaseline or plain Chapstick will work too.

Avoid products w/ formaldehyde or toluene, they are very hard on nails.

Some women swear by taking pre-natal vitamins.

You don't need any lotions, potions or pills. What you need is a change of diet.

You body is a wonderful things and always tells you on the outside what is going on in the inside, in your case your body it telling you, you don't get enough calcium for your bones and nails. Increase that and you will notice a difference within a week.
