There are many different theories about it...some believe that the universe will continue to expand forever, while others don't believe that the universe is even expanding. there's also this theory about the Big Crunch, which apparently happens as gravity eventually stops the expansion of the universe.
First there's the Big Bang, and everything expands infinitely until gravity stops the expansion, then the universe starts collapsing back into a tiny singularity, this is called the Big Crunch. In a sense it would be a cycle because after the Big Crunch, the Big Bang happens again and the universe expands, then contracts back into a Big Crunch, and so on.
However this is just one of many theories. If the universe has large amounts of dark energy, then this expansion of the universe can go on and on forever. There are also theories like the Big Freeze or the Big Rip, where the acceleration caused by dark energy eventually becomes so strong that it completely overwhelms the effects of the gravitational, electromagnetic and weak binding forces.
In the Big Freeze, the universe continues to expand so much that it results in a universe too cold to sustain life. In essence, we all die. ^^"
In the Big Rip, the universe continues to expand so much that all the matter of the universe, from stars and galaxies to atoms and subatomic particles, are progressively torn apart by the expansion of the universe. In short, we all die too.
Yet another theory is the Heat-death of the universe. The universe continues to expand so much that it has "run down" to a state of no free energy to sustain motion or life. In physical terms, it has reached maximum entropy. It is not quite the same as the Big Freeze, although the result is the same - we all die. ^^"
so yeah either way we don't have to worry about it, because all these happens way way way after we die, and probably even after the whole of human race dies out or becomes extinct or something. -u know what with all that global warming and stuff, makes you think that we are all doomed. we probably are headed towards doom either way anyway (look at above theories) (: so yah hahaha-

The universe is finite. It is 13 billion light years from one end to the other. It is expanding at a faster rate as time passes. At the edge of the universe there is no space. Not like the space between the sun and the moon. It has no gravity. Nothing. That is why the speed the universe is expanding is increasing. The mass and energy of the universe is almost the same as it was in the big bang. The only difference is the mass that travels in between multi-universe, but that's a small amount.

The universe is an incident that has a beginning and an end.
The universe is like a hurricane it starts with a wisp blasts into a roaring maelstrom then peters out and disappears.
It has a maximum mass and size beyond which it cannot go.
It does seem unreal but it can't be infinite and nothing exists beyond the edge where space evaporates into non-existence

The story, purpose, summary , essence of all creation is to say that what is created is sure to be destroyed. The nature has only one unchanging principle, that is "change".
what we call change, is nothging but journey of all those created towards destruction. Before the universe, there was space called "Primordial Space(Mahasoonya). The universe is expanding in this space only, just as a balloon expands in the open space of a room. At last, after the collapse of the universe, again what remains is that Primordial Space (PS) only, where mass attains ether form and disseminates in energy, which neither called light, heat, mass, electrons, or any other known name. Definitely universe is having an end. What we see today, we do not know it is growth, or falling apart, as we attain age, it is difficult to say we are growing or nearing our deadline.

based on the theory of "the big bang" which claims that the universe started at a single point and at a fixed time in the past, and the assumption that the universe has been expanding for this singular point at a finite speed, the universe must have "an end"

The universe has been shown, mathematically, to be finite and is still expanding and moving faster. Beyond that? Check out the web site below, the video is excellent. It is the NOVA PBS material on "The Elegant Universe" and is part of their work on their special on Membrane Theory.

Got to go with The Foo Fighters, they are the most entertaining band I've ever seen in concert. Plus you can judge by the creativity of their music videos that there would never be a dull moment. And can I get dibs on walking the llama?

No.... the universe will not end. i mean the big crunch is never possible. the present way in which universe is expanding shows that it will only accelerate its expansion....
So my dear friend, there's no need to worry about the fate of the universe; it will definitely outlive our planet earth. Worry about the future of this planet. We humans are pollluting it.....If it goes this way, life on our planet will soon come to an end.!

no the universe has no end because the meaning of universe
is collection of galaxies .the galaxies are collection of solarsystems , since the solar systems are constantly formed .we cannot find the end of universe as it has no end .The solar systems are formed ny the group of dust particles . scientists say that these galaxies are formed by 2 evolutions namely i) Big bang
ii)steady state theory
i)10000000 years ago dust in the universe had closely packed and had given big burst and this burst is called big bang theory which caused to the formation of galaxies.
