It depends on where you are in life, what you want to be, and where you are working. If you are a college student working your way through school, waitressing is a good choice. If you need a job to help put your kids through school and you don't have higher education, also probably your best bet. If you are at any stage of your life where you are just looking for a part time job where you can be around people, waitressing is still a great choice. You can make really good tips, especially if you are working in a good resturant in a big city.

I think waitressing is a good job because you learn a LOT about how to treat people and how to work. You also pick up important money tips and business philosophies that may help you in later life. If you are only looking for a glamourous job however, waitressing may not be your best bet.

I am a line cook at a nice restaurant...I make pretty good money but the waitresses bank.. If you can talk to people, deal w/ high stress situations you can make lots of money. But other than the money, any job that you enjoy doing is a good job.. If you don't enjoy your job as a waitress, it'll show and you probably won't do so well.

It is a commendable job, someone has to do it.

Unfortunately, if you are not a waitress at some swanky, high priced fancy restaurant where you can get 50.00 tips easily, then no, it is not considered a "Good job".

A good education, even a 2 year degree can go a long way, but to be fair, I know many waitresses who have degrees, and they're still serving.

Shame really, but as long as you're always trying to better yourself, that is all that matters!

Good luck!

I was a bartender and waitress for many years. I loved my job and the freedom it gave me. I went to work after my kids were in bed, switching shifts is usually not a big deal, it is very social and you always have cash in your pocket. You walk out of the door when you finish your shift and you leave your job there. I really like the career I have now, but there are days that I miss being a waitress.

YES, it is considered to be a Very Good Job, back In 1986, I was Day Waitress, at the "Top Diner" in North Mpls, MN, and I made $2.70 per hour, that was NOT even min. wage, min. wage was $3.25 back then, but I made Between $75. & $125. A Day In Tips........ Awesome place to work, people from all types of life came there! Think. $75. x 25 days = $1,875 JUST IN TIPS! plus my wages....

It is a decent job, BUT if you work in a nice restaurant it is considered a good job. Like 4 or 5 star places

You have to smile and give the customers,
exactly what they ask for. Such long hours,
and little pay. There are a few other jobs
like that , but they are a step, or two, below
being a waitress. But not by much.

You can make fantastic tips. It depends on the restaurant you are working in, it's usually considered a hard job to be on your feet all day, but if you make great tips then it's a great job.
