Living in Portland OR I would love to see us have a team especially seeing we are about to win the second straight College World Series.

So say the Marlins do move or the MLB expands which town would you like to see have a major league team and what should they be called.

I'm going for the Portland Pioneers.

I was thinking the same thing as you, and I don't even live in Oregon (though I am partial to the Pac 10). But I just checked the historic list of College World Series champions, and there's a recent 10-year span where LSU won five titles--including a back-to-back pair. So going by the logic you're presenting (as was I, in my head), Louisiana would have to get the nod over Oregon. If the Beavers can pull this one off and remain top contenders for several more years, that would solidify your case. I'm with you, though--I think the name's kinda cool, too. Plus, your state has shown that they can hold on to a basketball franchise, so I think your idea has some potential.

What does the success of a college baseball program have to do with the potential of getting a MLB franchise?

I do like Pioneers as a nickname for a Portland team.

MLB can't really expand again, the pitching is still diluted from the last expansions. A number of MLB pitchers should still be in double-A ball. They actually need to contract at least two teams (ie: Devil Rays & Nationals), then move the Marlins to Orlando, so a team in Florida can survive.

If/when MLB expands, it will do so (again) by adding two teams. I agree with you that Portland, Oregon would be a logical choice for one of these. It has the population, fan base and corporate sponsorship to ensure that it would be a success. The other city which I would award a franchise would be (believe it or not) Las Vegas, Nevada. This city has long been avoided because of its association with gambling. This is not right! The city deserves a major league franchise simply because it is a great place to play and it definitely would have a great fan base, corporate sponsors, ownership, etc., to be a very successful team. MLB should not penalise the citizens of Las Vegas, simply because of legalized gambling.

I don't think that expansion is likely anytime soon, since there are so many teams doing poorly with attendance. While that would logically make moving an option, the amount of time and agitation over moving the Expos to Washington was insane.
And the Nat's will not be moving to the AL East while the Orioles remain up the road in Baltimore.

The Marlins should move somewhere else, I agree with you on that but the league does not need another team. It already has enough teams. The Devil Rays and some of the other newer teams don't even draw so why is another one needed? It's fine the way it is.

Las Vegas should get a franchise before Portland. There doesn't need to be another team in the North West.

I would say throw a team down in Mexico City. That is one of the biggest cities in the world so there would be so many potential fans. There are already too many teams in America. I would call them the Mexico City Rojo (red) for the red hot summers

MLB doesn't need to expand anymore. They actually have too many teams as it is. What they need to do is get rid of the Devil Rays, Marlins and move the Nationals to the AL east.

There`s lots of college teams that make the super regionals or world series every year from areas that couldn`t support a major league team. South Carolina & Clemson, but you could go up the road 120 miles to Charlotte. That area could support a mlb team, but it wouldn`t surprise me to see baseball go south of the border. Mexico City, or Puerto Rico could very well end up being the next expansion cities.
