some rude and obnoxious man at work made a pass at me, saying he was 'single' and trying to invite himself to my house. in the mean time, everyone else says he just got thru b.itching about his former wife, who has divorced him.

it seems to me, everytime i meat a 'single' man, he is actually a divorced man. however, women are more straight foward, introducing themselves as receintly divorced. what goes here?

Men are generally embarrassed over their status. I believe that most men want to appear as single instead of used goods. After all, when you meet a man who is divorced, don't you wonder why? What did he do? When you meet a woman who is divorced, don't you ask, What did he do?

What gives is that men are generally the ones to "make a pass" as you put it. If you were making a pass at a man, you wouldn't say "hi there, I'm recently divorced, wanna come over?".

You're single now. Not part of a pair. No couple. Single. Yes, you are divorced. It's a label. Do with it what you will!

Guys know new girlfriends don't like ex wife drama, so they don't mention they are divorced.

Technically, if you are divorced you are single by definition, so it's not a lie.

I have heard of both men and women being referred to or introduced as being both single and divorcedas single divorced, never heard of a possible double standard there.

I am married and don't date. If I was single and dating, I would rather meet a divorced guy claiming single than to meet a married guy claiming single or divorced

It probably depends on whether the man or the woman has any obligations left over from his or her previous marriage.

If there are no kids. And the man has paid all of his alimony (if any is required). Then he is completely finished and done with his former relationship. And for all intents and purposes his is single.

But if a divorced lady is taking care of her kids from her previous marriage. Then of course she has to say that she is divorced. Or else rumors will spread that she has had those kids out of wedlock.

She has to say that she is divorced in order to protect her reputation.

Guys move on quicker. As far as guy is concerned he is single, at least as far as he wants to hook up with a woman and have sex. Divorced has the sound of failure, to a guy.

Women take more time to recover. So they are divorced, and that is code for not dating. Divorced women also typicaly end up with the kids, and put thier kids first, so they are not single as they are not free from strings and atachments.

Guys just don't feel connected the same way women do.
They also aren't honest about their feelings like women are.
Read the book: "Women are from Venus , Men are from Mars"
I think you'll enjoy it!
While a guy is still bitching about an ex, he is not ready for a relationship, and is just cruising for sex and a feeling that he is still valuable.
Women are more in touch when it comes to their feelings, and relationships, because they have higher social IQ's.

it is because men and women are different. A man wants to be able to pursue any woman that he can. A woman on the otherhand wants to be more straightforward and find a person who would not care about them being divorced.

A divorced woman would seem pitiful towards other men, while a divorced man would seem pathetic among women.

I haven't encountered that, but both genders should make their situation clear.
However, I do see that a lot of women call themselves 'single mothers' after a divorce, when in fact they are not single mothers, they are divorced mothers. Single mothers have never been married. That's one distinction I wish women would use....

I introduce MYSELF as single because I am. Being divorced means not being married, not being married means being single. I'm a woman, I've been married, I am no longer married due to divorce therefore I am single.
