i wrote it wrong problem is 18^3-48x^2-3x+8

7 answers

18x³-48x²+3x+8

= 6x²·3x - 6x²·8 + 1·3x + 1·8

= 6x²(3x - 8) + 1(3x + 8) .... It won't factor

3x - 8 isn't exactly the same as 3x + 8

Addendum:

You still wrote the problem wrong
18^3-48x^2-3x+8
and it still won't factor

Given:

18x^3 - 48x^2 - 3x +8

Factoring by grouping;

( 18x^3 - 3x ) + ( -48x^2 +8 )

solve:

[ 3x ( 6x^2 - 1 ) ] - [ 8 ( 6x^2 - 1 ) ]

factor out similar terms

answer :

(6x^2 - 1) ( 3x - 8 )

Most likely there is some typo here.

It is either 18x^3+48x^2+3x+8 or 18^3-48x^2-3x+8.

18x^3+48x^2+3x+8
= 6x^2(3x+8)+3x+8
= (6x^2+1)(3x+8)

18^3-48x^2-3x+8
= 6x^2(3x-8)-(3x-8)
= (6x^2 -1)(3x-8)

Edit, changing post with new problem from additional information. "18x^3-48x^2-3x+8"

You can group like so:
18x^3 - 48x^2 - 3x + 8
(18x^3 - 48x^2) + (-3x + 8)
6x^2(3x - 8) - (3x - 8)
(6x^2 - 1)(3x - 8)

Thus, factoring by grouping, you get (6x^2 - 1)(3x - 8)

18x^3 - 48x^2 - 3x + 8 =
18x^3 - 3x - 48x^2 + 8 =
3x(6x^2 - 1) - 8(6x^2 - 1) =
(3x - 8)(6x^2 - 1) =
(3x - 8)(x√6 - 1)(x√6 + 1)

18x^3-48x^2-3x+8 (corrected)

= 6x^2(3x - 8) - 1(3x - 8)

= (6x^2 - 1)(3x - 8)

are you sure that there is exactly one minus sign? thr should be either two or none for factoring by grouping...
