Sing because you love it & it's in your heart. If you're doing it for fame & fortune then, I feel you're doing it for the wrong reason. Not that you don't have talent, it's just that it's a hard cold business and only a select few are successful. Good luck & keep singing.

Boy can you make folks cry when you play and sing? Have you paid your dues? Can you moan the blues? Can you bend them guitar strings? Can you make folks feel what you feel inside? If you're big star bound let me warn you it's a long hard ride.

If you feel you have the talent and especially if you have your own material (or excellent covers) you will always have the hope of winning a talent quest, getting discovered by a label exec.......or you could save your pennies and find an affordable studio, (even a backyard one) a few friends to back you up instrumentally and vocally if neccessary and cut yourself a CD.....self title it and see if you can find a government initiative similiar to AMRAP here in Australia;
see below:
Amrap : Services Musicians and record labels can use Amrap to send copies of their new releases to community radio stations around the country likely to play them. ...

If you can't find amrap or similiar in your country of origin try finding your:
CBA?= country (Community Broadcasting Association Australia)
or the:
IBA?=country (Independant Broadcasting Association Australia)
These guys are usually attatched to the Community Radio
Broadcasting Sector.
You sign up with them send them one copy with a good blurb and what categories you would like it promoted in. I believe. They listen to it and then let you know how many stations would be likely to play it......then you forward them the copies required with a good blurb on yourself and your music. They then forward them out to the stations for you.
You will find as these stations are not money hungry commercial stations they will play your music and if it's good will promote the hell out of it for you, without expecting the kickbacks.
Some may even have the ability to merchandise it for you and would be prepared to dropship or consign copies, this would intail a fee by way of commission more than likely.
Just a tip....unless your style is true old style country when you classify your style tell them it's a bit country, easy listening, alternative, pop rock.....this will get more DJ's at more stations listening to it this way and that equals more airplay.
How do I know this you say?... simple... I am a community DJ and every CD that is sent to me gets dedicated airplay and talked up with the odd piece before the airing date of the show it is to feature in. I believe in teasing my audience for at least a week and creating an air of expectation so as to gain a hell of a lot more listeners and interest for the artist on the night.
Why ....'cause that's what community broadcasters do.
also remember if the station has several shows for which it would be suited they in turn will do the same thing.
