There are many:
Supply lines:
It was very hard for the british to keep their armies supplied, simply due to the vast distances between them and the war. This caused many problems.
The same could be said about the americans during viet nam.
Local Militia:
When a country is invaded by another, many citizens will rise up and fight the invaders. This happened in the US of course against brittain, as well as in viet nam. It makes it very hard to fight a war when you have civilians taking pot shots at you as well.
Not to mention, when we were in viet nam, we pretty much got our butts handed to us, kind of like the brittish did :)

Interesting one, but differences as important as similarities.
The logistical problems the British faced were similar.
The guerrilla aspect was exaggerated, especially during the Vietnem war itself. There was guerrilla fighting on both sides, and some Americans wanted to turn it into a complete guerilla war, but Washington wouldn't, because he believed that the wounds caused would be too deep when he could win by just waiting the British out while the French did most of the fighting.
The anti-war faction in the home country is also an interesting comparison.
But don't forget the British weren't fighting a bunch of rockhard murderous Communists, ready to lie and cheat at every opportunity, and slaughter their fellow-countrymen in thousands.
And could the war have been won??

Like the British in America in the late 1700s - America took the same position as Britain did when America was in Vietnam from 1960 - 1975. They attempted to deny the Vietnamese their independence through revolution.

Both armies were forced to fight guerillas and both lost to those guerillas.
