When you're at the age when you want to start wearing makeup, and you do, for a considerably long or short amount of time, and you go into the world wearing your makeup, how does it make you feel when you go out into the world with no makeup on? Does it make you feel insecure about yourself? I'm just curious, because I'm 15, and I recently started wearing a bit of eyeliner only on the top lash, in brown, and I'm kind of beginning to regret wearing it, because I feel that once you wear makeup, you can never go back. You know, the feeling that you know you're not as pretty without makeup, etc. Any ideas, tips, stories, comments, etc?

I wore a lot of makeup at a young age--starting when I was 10 years old. Now I am in my early twenties and I hardly wear makeup. So it doesn't mean that you can't revert back to not wearing makeup. I am a believer in enhancing your natural beauty--not redefining it. That's what I think more women should do instead of getting dolled up because that's originally what makeup is for--to enhance your best features and to minimize your worst features.

In your case I think that as long as you keep it at a minimum you're not going to feel bad about yourself with makeup. For example using a tinted moisturizer, the brown eyeliner you mentioned, a light coat of mascara, and a little lipgloss couldn't hurt. After all your natural beauty is shining through isn't it? As for the insecurities I think that's more associated with being a teenager than having much to do with the makeup. And regardless as long as you stick to minimal makeup you're going to know you're beautiful underneath it because the change is so subtle.

I started wearing makeup around the age of 16, just lipstick and pressed powder. It wasn't until I started college that I added mascara, eyeliner, etc. Just like most things you do, "putting on your face" became habit and I would be embarrassed to leave the house without it. When I was around 24, I would notice how handsome some men were and realized they could be attractive with all their "imperfections," so why couldn't I? So I experimented, didn't wear makeup for 2 weeks. At first I felt ugly and naked, but people told me they couldn't tell the difference--and it felt great to be makeup-free! 2 Weeks became 2 years. I was blessed with really nice skin. Many guys would say I didn't need cosmetics. Most guys will tell you they hate makeup because they don't want it on their face/clothes, anyway. I'm 27 now, and unfortunately, I had developed eczema and my skin is not what it was, so lately I feel like I need it. To be honest, I think makeup is only for women (our peers) to admire and truly appreciate the flawless appearance we create each day. Yes, it is possible to go from full-face makeup to chapstick, you just need to accept and embrace your natural appearance. I realized that if you are really happy, comfortable and confident with who you are and how you look, that has a more powerful effect than any beauty trick. Makeup will not matter. And even though I'm now unhappy with my skin, I still avoid wearing makeup as much as possible to see how I really look and remind myself that I am pretty (You should too)!

I started wearing make up. Sometimes I just wear a little, and sometimes I put more things on.. It actualyl depends on my mood. But I do feel insecure about not wearing ANY make up on my face when I go out in public. But sooner or later, I will get over it. It happens to everyone. Don't be afraid of wearing make up though! It's part of being a girl!!

I used to do the works every day: foundation, powder, concealer, blush, eyeshadow, liner, mascara, etc. Now though, especially in the summer, I wear very little makeup. I know I look better with it. Don't get me wrong, I still wear it all occasionally... just not everyday like I used to.

I used to never leave the house without doing my makeup. It was years of this. Then a couple of times I went out without it and there was really no change in how people saw me. So it doesn't really matter to me. I think it's just everybody's personal preference.

When I was younger I wouldn't go anywhere without make-up. I just felt so damn ugly. But now that I'm older, almost 40, it doesn't bother me at all. Sometimes I feel like it & sometimes I don't. I've learned to like myself & the way I look.
