It would show that the conditions required for life are less strict than we thought, and that (microbial) life may be commonplace in the universe.

If life were found to exist on Mars for certain, I think it would not affect life here on Earth very much. It wouldn't be Earth shattering. I think the general public is pretty much expecting that eventually some sort of primitive life will be found on Mars in the form of microbes or some other lower order alive or fossilized proof that life once existed there. The planet Mars is very similar to Earth in many respects and water has to have once existed there according to the latest findings. Although water has not been found yet the results of water on the terrain of Mars has been witnessed. I think the only way finding life on Mars would really shake up out society is if intelligent life were found there although this seems unlikely at present. Mankind has come to see Earth as unique in the universe when it comes to having living thinking beings living on it. If intelligent life is ever found off the Earth it would shatter that myth once and for all.

Life found in Mars would affect our life on Earth. We will become more focused on space travel, we may be trying to make the trip possible in few days. All the countries in the world will be rushing to go up, hence there will be great demand for space shuttle and planetary science related skilled people. Any useful resources found in Mars, would increase the urge among other countries. The life living on Mars is equally or more developed than human, we could establish good relationship with them and bring them to Earth. Space travel becomes more of a necessity. There will be more shuttle manufacturer, shuttle price would come down to the level of car price. There will be show room on every where selling shuttle. When many start travel to Mars there will be Space Motels every where, where people can park their shuttle and have a break.
This is all possible.

It may affect some of the religious people who cling to straws like believing in intelligent design when there are mountains of evidence supporting evolution. Since the theories of intelligent design are anything but intelligent, someone will come up with some theory claiming it proves intelligent design because there was no ocean or something similar.
It would demonstrate to the scientific community that life is probably very common in the universe and greatly enhance the desire to explore beyond the solar system..

It might not effect us. That is only if by us, you mean the general public then it probably won’t. Tons of information is withheld from the general public on many a subject. On the other hand if by chance the human population as a whole finds out about other life forms outside our planet, it will either join us or separate us to an extreme. 66 words sorry
Anywho, If you’d like to look more into the ufo/alien phenomenon I recommend you watch some “disclosure project” videos on youtube or google video.

I don't see how life on this would be affected one way or another if life is found on Mars or any other planet. Life on this planet will go on the same unless the Martians want to play "Space Invaders"

We would be affected profoundly. Life found anywhere, on any world, anywhere in the universe, even a single celled amoeba would radically alter our views of the universe because we would know that we are not alone. This is mankind's worst plight. Feeling that we are alone in the universe.

If we find life on ANY planet in our own solar system, it will hopefully convince all the skeptics out there that the idea of intelligent life on one of the billions of planets in the universe really isn't too far fetched.

There will be a lot of new departments of astronomy opened in universities around the world. There will be a whole lot of discussion about it.
