I occasionally see them advertised in my newspaper and I'm intrigued by them, but I don't know about their care and feeding. Do they roam free in the house? Are they good with cats and small children? What do they eat? Any advice, pros and cons, would be appreciated. Do they have health issues? Do vets know how to take care of them if they get sick or do wellness check-ups like shots? If they're like ferrets, I don't want one!

The wonderful thing about hedgehogs is that they are so much like cats, but more exotic -- hence, better conversation pieces! Ha, ha, ha!

According to the article below, cats and hedgehogs can coexist peacefully, especially once the cats discover that the hedgehogs are covered with quills

sure you have to teach your cat that its a pet and not food
I have a squirrel and my two dogs and two cat don't even think about him,as food, yet go out side and catch there own.

i would assume that the hedgehog would be in some kind of cage???

no they are wild animals and should be pets.
