I live in western australia and have just found out there is a volcano underneath one of our towns (Manjimup) which is monitored regularly. I have lived in this area forever and have never heard anything about this and I know no one else knows anything either.

Im looking for someone who knows for sure or someone who can lead me to a map of WA, if there is such a thing as a map of undergroud...

Anyone know anything?

I have looked online and cant find anything to back up this claim, although Im fairly sure its true as it came from a reliable and reputable source. I think they are hiding it from us so we dont freak out.

I doubt very much that there is an active volcano under Manjimup. WA is one of the oldest and most geologically stable places on Earth. The last volcanism that I know of in your area was back in the Early Cretaceous. To put how long ago that was in perspective, India was splitting off from Western Australia and there were dinosaurs wandering around. It was 135 million years ago. Basalt lava is still widespread under ground and you can see it near Pemberton and in Bunbury. But our continent has long since drifted away from the hot-spot that was responsible for that volcanism.

By reading these articles it doesn't have any major details about anything to do with any kind of possible eruption. maybe there is nothing to worry about hopefully. Geologist constantly study the world on a regular basis, and attentive to the possible dangers involved. there would have been a warning or rated at least a possibility of a catastrophe.

If there were any possibility of catastrophe your area would closely watched...

I have seen some sites of possible earthquake activity but I do not know how real these sites are because of the complexity of an earthquake. Earthquakes are really unpredictable because it is a sudden shifting of plates on the Earth. It is almost like saying you are going to have a baby boy in 3 years. Earthquakes can happen anywhere at anytime, and they happen all of the time, because of the constant movement of plates (another reason why it can be hard to predict a major earthquake); most of which we do not even feel because it is too deep underneath the earth.

An eruption is easier to predict because of there are many more factors to consider. emissions of gasses near or on the Volcano or hot spot, earthquakes near the volcano, lava flow, change in shape, hiccups etc.
