The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.
Show me the money honey ~ is their motto

Take a careful look around. The media is filled with positive stories. I just read a great story about a woman runner who was severly injured in the middle of the desert, and her dog went a few miles to get help.

It's easy to think that bad news gets emphasized, because it does jump out. A plane crash is going to get more publicity than the 10,000 flights that land safely. Corruption is a story, honesty isn't. But if you look carefully, there's all sorts of news out there. Just don't get discouraged by the bad stuff.

They do sometimes talk about the good events when they are unusual like when a dog saves it's family from a fire by waking them up or when a very young child calls 911 thus saving a parent. Otherwise they would have to list all the planes that didn't crash, all the pregnant women who were not killed by a husband or boyfriend and all the drunk drivers that didn't kill anybody. Tragic events are unusual enough to be newsworthy, thank God.

the positive does't garner ratings like the negative.
people like to see the bad and the ugly so that they can either: feel better about themselves/their situations, can criticize others about something they know little or nothing about, or so they can complain about how horrid things are while doing nothing to cause improvements.

add to that the fact that most of the media is owned by the same ideological groups of people who desire to be kingmakers and to rake in the $$ at the expense of their viewers.
