Do you think it would be possible for there to be more than one specie of equally or near equally intelligient beings living together on the same planet, or would survival of the fittest rule out that possibility? I know there cannot be a right or wrong answer to this. I just want to see people's opinions.

I think your question is a good one, as hypothetical questions go, so I starred it. If we look at our own history, all we know is that we are the only species of human which currently exists. In the past, though, there were species of fairly equivalent intelligence which existed at the same time. Did one species kill off the others or at least help them along to their extinction? We don't know.
I think the problem has to do with ecological niches. If the two species can coexist without competing for resources or having one prey on the other, then mutual survival might be possible. But I tend to be more pessimistic about that. Evolution is very often not what we would call pretty. I believe the closer two species are, the more likely they are to compete and battle until one becomes extinct. But before that, one would surely be enslaved by the other.
The odds of both species reaching a level of sophistication equal to or superior to what we have today are I believe, sadly unlikely.
Good thought question.

I think I understand the question. You're asking if 2 different humanoid species of near equal intelligence could co-exist on the same planet? Well, I think it all comes down to what level of intelligence they are at in this "near equivalence". If they are still in the phase of tribal warfare (like humans) then I think there is a good chance they'd kill each other off. But if they made it to a much higher level of intelligence then it would be possible to co-exist. Look at humans, for example. With all of the wars that have gone on and are still going on, it is obvious that we are fairly primitive because we still fight each other. Imagine if we had another humanoid species to fight... the wars would never end! However, if humans were smart enough to find a way to make world peace, I'm sure we could also make peace with another humanoid species as well.

I like this question, simply because, aliens, and life on other planets, have always interested me.
I dont think that it necessarily has to be two species, or many species, competing for the leadership, or superiority of the other, by assuming this, we are thinking that they are like us.
I would hope that they are more advanced, and have overcome power struggles, which I believe is a human trait.
If You are going to assume that such a planet exists, lets think that it will be better than ours. Why assume the same?.
or worst than ours?
I really believe that there are many planets in the universe,
and think, that some are way more advanced than us, and others, that may be less advanced than us, if I believed in a more advanced society, I would also have to believe in aliens,
which I do!, so for them to be here they have to be way more advanced than us, in travel alone..
They say that if we are to reach planets, in our solar system or beyond, a new form of travel has to exist, and they are leaning towards an idea, of a ship, that would be able to destroy matter in front of it, or form a vacuum, therefore moving forward to fill this empty space. I do think that, it will be possible for us in the future to create something like that.
Inhabitants, of such a planet would be so advanced that travel may be possible for them by thought alone.
The only way that law of the jungle could exist, is if they have a great need for something, be it for natural resources, or self created partial destruction, like we face on earth at this time.
These are my thoughts on this...

if another specie nearly as intelligent as the human race lived in our planet, we would fight against each other until either of us take the helm, or draw lines and make some compacts for peace but I'm not sure ultimate peace would come. even among the same species we... But it's just my opinion. if their intelligence levels are much higher than I expect, I think it's possible to live together.

survival of the fittest is relevant for species competing for the same ecological niche, but species that do not compete can coexist, even if they are all intelligent.
Lets assume the intelligent species of that far planet are a sea mammal and a land primate, I fail to see why they can not coexist, except of course when the primate is like us humans, who would not let any other species live in peace.

Provided that neither of those species are afflicted by EGOS then it is completely plausible that two different intelligent species can cohabitate on a single planet, in theory.

In actuality, we do exist with Dolphins so this theory may have already been proven.

This is always a possibility that 2 similiar species of equal or near equal intelligence can co-exist

I think so. I mean the universe is fuc kin huge. Bigger than we could ever imagine. And with all the different galaxies and planets there has to be another place where there is at least other life forms. If they were a lot smarter than us they probably would have figured out a way to make contact, but I dunno maybe they are just to far away. So I don't think there are highly intelligent beings to close to our planet. But it would be so very interesting to meet them if there are. I'd really want to know what their religions are like. I bet they wouldn't have any of the religions that worship the God Muslims, Christians, and Jews worship.

Definitely, it's absolutely possible that there are intelligent beings inhabited another planet depending on the co-existence for survival in another galaxy far away from Earth, perhaps in another dimension time zone. On Earth, we humans depend on other living things and animals for source of food.-key for survial. There are still mysteries beyond our knowledge and explaination on our own planet in our galaxy yet to be discovered, not to mention about another planet in other galaxy in the universe.

Only if they're living in a symbiotic relationship.

Otherwise, they'd likely be "intelligent" much the same way humans are - with little or no regard on average for those of other races or faiths.
