My father ran a hot dog stand out of a truck. I think those were the hours he operated. Anything earlier than 10am is too early for the majority of the market, and people don't quite get an unsatiable taste for hot dogs after 8pm either, and it gives the people that work until 7pm time to decide that your hot dog stand is where they want to go to grab a quick dinner.

I'm not a hot dog vendor, but it seems pretty obvious no freebies. I used to know a guy who ran a hot dog stand near a local college. When the bars would close all the college kids would be looking for something to eat and there he was waiting to serve them. Catering to college kids during the evening seems to me would be better than just running a stand during normal daylight hours. The guy I know put four kids through college with his couple of stands located near two universities.

There is a gut truck near here that calls local businesses and sets up times to set up there. He also takes orders before hand so he can have everything ready by the time he gets there.
