I don't know any crab that eat grits, but I shouldn't be surprised to see WalMart feeding that to them.

Chances are if it was for a fish tank, it's either a fiddler crab (see photo: http://www.ryanphotographic.com/images/JPEGS/Uca%20perplexa%20Yellow%20hand%20fiddler%20crab.jpg ) or a red-claw crab (http://www.clhs-chawks.org/loc_web/animals/arthropods/images/red_claw_crab.jpg ). Both of these aren't for freshwater - they need to have some salt in their water, and they both need to be able to get out of the water and onto land. And they're very good at escaping from your tank if they have any electrical cords or air tubing they can climb. Just so you know what to expect.

Here's a caresheet for each of the ones I mentioned:

If it was a walmart crab in a cup hermit crab then it's either a purple pincher or an ecuadorian those seem to be the 2 species they carry most often

its a fiddler crab that is wrongly labeled freshwater. it needs brackish to survive and even saltier to thrive -- here is some information on keeping one -- they don't mix with fish at all -- any and all fish will be dinner --
