6 feet long, 2 feet high, 1 foot at the side...how many gallons??

It depends where you are because in Europe we use imperial measure with eight pints to the gallon where in the USA they use 6 pints to the gallon.
First work out the cubic feet
6 x 2 x 1= 12
multiply by 6.25 to get imperial gallons
12 x 6.25 =75 imperial gallons
to get US gallon multyply by 8 then divide by 6
75 * 8 /6 = 100 US Gallons

Approximately 87 gallons. You can use the given source to do your own calculation. If you do the calculation in inches, you can then divide the volume by 231 to get an approximate number of gallons.

I guess the guy that answered this question before me thought you were talking about your gas tank...

Lenght times width times hieght times divide by 231.
Then take out some of that for all the gravel , rocks etc.
