I grew up in Lakeland FL and I can tell you. I do not miss the Summertime heat...I hated it. I have to say that ceiling fans and water are your two best friends. I also love those fans that spray water..buy a really good one and use it. Spray it on the back of your neck or put a cool washcloth there. I learned that when I was pregnant. I now live in Central Oregon and we have warm days and cool nights . It is perfect....My family still lives there. I always tell people It is a nice place to visit but hard to live there...
Keep Cool...

The No AC thing depends upon where you live.. low humidity= better coping rate.. Florida has high humidity.. AC removes moisture from the air..
It would like one of a couple things might be affecting you..
If the AC's are old, they may have lost some coolant or you have bent fins or have junk in the fins so the air cannot pass through effectively to cool.. The fins you can straighten and clean to a certain degree yourself but the coolant requires proper tooling from an HV/AC professional.
Next, you could have too large a space for the conditioners to properly cool,, check that out by finding out the make and model and doing a littler Internet searching or calling an HV/AC tech and asking him..
You may not have sufficient insulation in your attic or crawlspace to keep the heat out.. that requires adding more yourself or having a handy man come do it...
Good luck!!

I live in Arizona, and it was 113* today. My AC is set on 78*. It doesn't run all day, because I have triple paned windows put in recently. It has NEVER been a comfortable temperature in this house without the AC running non-stop. (Not till now)
I believe in Florida you have a lot of humidity? I know I wouldn't be able to handle that.
Even tho I get sick of people commenting that its a 'dry heat', I certainly will take it over a 'wet heat'.
Good luck and stay cool. Are you close to the beach?

I often hear stories from my parents about how they lived with no air conditioner in their homes. My dad is from Arkansas and the humidity there is awful! I suppose that they just grew up without it, so they were used to it. Myself, I could not bear the summers without my central air! Funny thing though, now my parents cannot be without theirs either! Isn't it nice to live the pampered life!

Lucky for me, I live in California. We haven't turned on the A/C in my house yet. At night we open the windows and the whole house cools down. Good luck with your heat problem!

I live in Texas and its freaking hot right now. I camped on the beach last night and woke up and thought I had wet myself. But instead it was just sweat that had poured from my body overnight. I love AC, but I could live without it.
