I think the issue is sensationalism and ratings for the media, not necessarily balanced news reporting. I remember after the Lacy Peterson story unfolded, hearing about an AA pregnant woman who also disappeared around the same time period but it wasn't publicized except in the immediate area she lived in. I think in this last case of MPWW, the fact that her son was left there at 2 yrs old and the things he had said to the investigators also pumped up the sensationalism.
It is a sad commentary on the public appetite for news, as if the media got more complaints about biased reporting, there might be more balanced journalism.

They even have a name for this, the "Missing White Woman Syndrome". Wikipedia even has an article on it. The media runs with the stories of pretty, white, middle-class women who go missing. Yet we seldom hear (except sometimes as a little footnote on a news broadcast) of men, minorities and people of lower economic status who go missing.

Actually my sister's boyfriend participated in a search and rescue a few weeks back for a boy who dissapeared on a fishing trip. He was found but it was all over the news too. I think though that the circumstances in which they dissapear makes the difference. This women in particular was pregnant, a single mom of young child at home and was seen in on video surveillence fine. Not to mention the scum of a man she had been messing with.

Ive seen national attention given to other races... They were beautiful woman....who's lives were taken tragically by angry black men...who cant get over the past, so they get involved with a nice white woman with a good heart and take their aggressions out on them. Remember OJ? Its the truth.... Let me guess you work for those imbeciles Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson right? Pathetic....just pathetic. I cannot wait to hear how they are going to try and weasel into this situation and try to make the poor victimized black man look innocent. I say hang the ****** by his balls, no matter what race he is....he broke the law. End of story.

I think the media thinks that people respond with more sympathy to missing pretty white girls. It's sad, but true. I think all missing people should have an equal opportunity to be on the news to get the word out. It's so sad!

It's NOT you- & WE'RE the ones "missing something". Someone's gotta start complaining about this hypocracy- and LOUDLY. The media are discriminating- and not giving us the facts. A little "piece" of the truth- is NOT the whole truth.

Well, I can see your point. If you are referring to CNN though, I am disgusted with them in the first place. It's always negative stories with them - what is it with negative stories that catch people's attention? I would like to be informed, yes, but I would like to see a little more positive in their stories!
