Every situation should be resolved through peaceful means and diplomacy, and war should be used as an absolute last resort.
Men who claim to be "war leaders" and who want to make their decisions regarding matters of foreign policy with nothing but "war in their minds" should not be voted into positions of power.

Both. As long as people group together, there will be war. It's a reality although with civilization, wars have become less frequent (and more destructive). However, like most humans, I am partial to peace. I only support war when attacked like the USA was in New York City by radical Islam or to prevent a sure, large and brutal future war by initiating a smaller one or as a last resort when diplomacy fails. I do not support wars for humanitarian reasons as it is nobody's business but the country involved, is rarely appreciated, and was the excuse used most often by European powers to rationalize colonialization.

Everyone would love to be at peace I'm sure...Not many people would choose war over peace, but in certain incidences, I believe war is necessary. To protect rights and freedom, to overthrow an abuse of power, to make positive changes.
Too often lately, our wars only start, they never end. Conflicts aren't resolved, they're just shifted around the globe and on to new regimes.

There is a peace that lies only on the other side of war.
A professional soldier understands that war means killing people, war means maiming people, war means families left without fathers and mothers. All you have to do is hold your first dying soldier in your arms and have that terribly futile feeling that his life is flowing out and you can't do anything about it. Then you understand the horror of war. Any soldier worth his salt should be antiwar. And still, there are things worth fighting for. --Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf--
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. --John Stewart Mill--
Only the dead have seen the end of war.
--Plato--
Any questions?

I think most people would prefer peace, including me. But I also think in this world atmosphere it will be near impossible for us to not be involved in some military conflict somewhere in the world. Unfortunately, some form of war is quite often necessary. I don't put the mess in Iraq in that category, but now that we've created it we have to deal with it. Our invasion of Afghanistan was necessary, at least I found it to be, and we should have finished the job there when we had the chance.

Obviously, most people would prefer peace, but history shows us that war is inevitable amongst human beings. Not necessarily the Iraq war, but to believe that all war can be avoided for all time is naive. You don't even have to include the United States. War happens with or without us, and most are started without us.

Depends on what kind of peace you are talking about, honey, peace under the Taliban wasn't very much fun. War is sometimes necessary .

War is part of life because not all people/countries develop at the same rate. In the large scheme of things we would not know peace with our war and visa verse. Utopia does not exist. We will always have conflict and leaders who crave money, fame and power so much that they will take their country to war. That is what history has shown us over and over and over.

I think war is necessary. It is how that it is handled I don't agree with. I love peace too, but when 9/11 happened, I would have grabbed a gun and jumped in too. What about you? Thanks for asking!!!
