Dear Jeff,
It doesn't matter what any democrat said or how they voted about the Iraq war. They were all deluded by the apparently superior intellect and extensive vocabulary and utter eloquence of President Bush. Haven't you heard?

99% of Congress said something similar because they thought it popular to do so. Now that it is no longer popular, they hope WE forget so they can ride the new wave. If the American public wasn't so apathetic, people who got rich by illegal means like the Kennedys wouldn't be in office and the rampant populism in Congress (ie, those afraid to make the hard and often unpopular decisions needed to lead) would be gone. Why do we keep putting in followers of popular whim as leaders? Why is it that when the USA or European countries get a leader, that leader invariably becomes unpopular? Even old Abe was unpopular in the north and was only able to win re-election by press censorship and arresting anyone not too famous that spoke out against him as a "Copperhead" (those wishing peace that thought the war a lost cause and so said the troops should be brought home).
Term limits may be the lesser of two evils after all.

So, it seems now that the Democrats cannot bear any responsibility for the war in Iraq.
Bush lied to them! How convenient!
Congress bears ALL the responsibility for the war since, as the Constitution provides, the Congress has the power to declare war. Since Bush used some sort of extra-Constitutional power to send our troops over there, our Congress, if they don't like it, should do everything in their power to bring them back and end it.
But since they haven't, then they are complicit and thus responsible. Claiming "but Bush lied to us!" is just so ....adolescent.
Finally, don't the Senate and Congress have committees and groups and huge staffs to keep them informed about what is going on? What kind of support were they getting from them?If Bush lied to them,(which I think he did) then what happened to the people who they should have turned to to get the real scoop? What happened?

We knew for years he wanted them. But we had no proof that he made them. We went to Iraq on the IDEA that he had them. But it's more than clear that the idea was that he wanted them.
