I own everything I own and have no debts of any sort.

Only secured debt carried in this household. Credit cards of any kind are paid off in full every month. We do have a Home Depot and Sears account with zero interest for 12 mos each. Those will be paid prior to converting to interest-bearing accounts...I detest giving credit card companies a dime! I'm stingy.

ZERO!!!!! I used to owe a LOT! My dh and I got scared being in that position with layoffs happening all around us so we got dead serious about our debt and paid off every cent of it. The most common sense approach I've seen to this is Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover. You can borrow the book from the library for free and you can listen to his radio show for free from his website (see below). You don't mention if you have any debt, but if you do (other than your house) GET RID OF IT!!! You'll sleep better at night!

$13,000 credit cards, $11,000 personal loan, $15,000 student loans, $83,000 mortgage.

I second the endorsement for Dave Ramsey as a resource to help getting out of debt. Following his plan, I have cut spending and am paying off the debt at an accelerated pace.

It will sure feel good to be free again.

At one point, I owed about $50,000 in personal loans and credit cards. It was horrible for me. I worried about it all the time. Thankfully, I have them all paid off. Now, I don't buy anything I can't afford. My life is much simpler now. I don't have a lot of the things I used to have and I don't do a lot of the things I used to do, but I'm much calmer and much happier now that I have that huge burden off of my shoulders.

I just got it down from six thousand to two thousand. That should be paid off by end of summer.. and I figured out how to keep it from growing again. DON'T BUY ANYMORE STUFF. Be satisfied with what you have. My new objective is to get rid of clutter, so not buying fits right in.

i have about $13,000 worth, and yes it does keep me awake at night. as unemployed solo mother of two it really stretches the budget trying to pay them off. everything i own has been hire purchased at one stage or another i just couldnt seem to save. now looking at all the intrest ive paid over the years it would have been better to go without the flash stereo i always wanted, and the comfortable bed, and just saved. i could have just bought cheaper with cash and have a savings account for my kids future and had 6 nights of the week worry free.
lesson learnt, im starting now.
