I had problem with my cooling system. After I traced out, I found out that my cooling fan is not working properly. At first, I thought it didn't work at all. But after testing the relay, it is in fact, working. So I went to the Temp Sensor, thinking it has to be the problem. But the Auto Shop was unable to even locate the sensor, they really sucks. However, now I just notice it wasn't even the sensor's fault. The cooling fan will only turn on when the AC is on. And it will turn off as well. That indicates that the sensor gotta be working; if not the fan should either stay on or off the whole time/ it shouldn't cycle if it is not working. I am not really a electrical guy. Can any of you guys tell me where the problem is? I am suspecting the electrical wirings between the cooling system and the ac system are the
ultimate blame. Am I right?
Any advise will be appreciated! Thank You!

I have good news for you. The problem you describe, and in EXACTLY the way you've described it, sounds like your cooling fan blower resistor has burned out. This is NOT to be confused with your car's climate control blower resistor pertaining to the four speed settings. What is probably happening is you are not getting any LOW speed cooling fan operation, when commanded by the PCM. There are two cooling fans, as others have already posted. Each cooling fan has a two wire pigtail connector to it. Look BETWEEN the two cooling fans for a two wire connector exactly identical to the ones plugged into the cooling fan motors. This will be plugged into the resistor. To disconnect it, simply DEPRESS the metal clip, and pull to remove. Look for a burned out connector, as well as the resistor it plugs into. To repair this problem, you need to go to your local Ford dealer parts department to purchase the blower resistor and pigtail connector. Both of these parts are very inexpensive, even from the dealer. It is also EXTREMELY common on your car. Please keep me informed of your findings. Hope this helps.

The problem with Ford Focus 2002 in cooling system is the wire connector in the fun resistor, has a resistance
and also check the cooling for bad fun relay connection (primary relay) . This is main problem with focus cooling system. The wire resistance in both fun resistor connection and relay connection in engine fuse box needs to be check

the temp sensor is threaded into the water jacket It actually is a switch that closes when a certain temp is reached. in your case that sensor is bad. The reason the fan works with the
AC is because the AC switch causes the fan to run. You should keep the AC on until you find a competent mechanic to service your cooling fan switch . I will update with a diagram of the switch location in a bit

here is that link-- get a new mechanic!

The fan will come on when the AC is on. When the AC is off, the fan should be controlled by a temp sensor. Go to autozone's website and look for the wiring diagram and trace out what components control the fan. That should help you figure it out. good luck.

if your car has two cooling fans on it ,one is for the air conditioner ,and it will only come on when the air conditioner is on,the other one should come on any time the temperature gets to hot,the sensor on some of them now works off the computer,so testing the sensor the old way don't work good, the computer actually kicks the relay on from a signal it gets form the sensor,if its a 3 wire sensor one part of it can be bad while the other part that reads, works the gage is still good, the only way to correct it though is to replace the sensor, then it should work good, but its activated from the computer, its supposed to be more accurate than the old system, but still a lot of cars get run hot,and ruins heads,so i think the older system worked better, but that's probably what it is,good luck with it hope this helps.

it sounds like a temp sensor to the fan relay
the fan is supposed to come on with the a/c there are a bunch of sensors working off of water temp which one I don't have a clue.but a competent shop will have the test equipment of finding the location
good luck

I had this problem in my 2004 ford focus se wagon 4 cylinder zetec engine. I checked all my fuses in the engine compartment and all 4 relays for the two fans and they are all good. Next I checked the fans by bench testing them with my battery charger and two flat head screw drivers shoved into each of the fans connectors (one fan at a time) I then attached the clips from my battery charger to the two screwdrivers being careful not to ground them out and the engine fan came on fine did the same thing with the a.c fan on the other side of the radiator it ran fine both tests. Next I disconnect the resistor in between both fans (two wire terminal plug) one side was burnt. Used a test light on either side of the two wires and positive on battery to see if anything came on. Only one side came on which means this is a switch for both fans just as the resistor acts as a switch so instead of going through all the hay wire and having to remove the entire fan assembly to get the resistor out which you will have to on 4 cylinder ztech engine fan assembly not easy as other models for this that show just a few clips is not that simple on all models. Anyway...After all of this I decided the resistor acts as a fuse to create a complete connection don t go miles or spending all your money yet just read what I say here you will be glad you did especially if you own the vehicle outright like I do. I cut the wires from the resistor connector in between the two radio fans. I stripped the ends to bare wire I wired them together to complete the connection as the resistor does the same damn thing. I let engine warm up operating temperature and let it run a good few minutes until the fan kicked on the cycled off then back on like its supposed to. I taped the the wires I stripped and twisted together and left it at that no problem. (NOTE) Both fans will run when the engine is hot to help it cool the radiator faster. The smaller fan for the a.c fan doesn t only come on when you are running the a.c pump so don t go believing all the crap you hear.
