Oh yes, how could one forget. They just don't make good country music like they used to. I was to see him in concert but he slipped on ice & hurt his back. He cancelled the show & I've never gotten to see him. That sucks because he has such good music.

Billy Joe Royal (born April 3, 1942 in Valdosta, Georgia) is an American singer.

Raised in Marietta, Georgia, Royal became a local singing sensation in the 1950s and 1960s at the Bamboo Ranch in Savannah, Georgia. He is famous for the 1960s pop music hit "Down in the Boondocks" written by friend, Joe South. His other pop music hits include "I Knew You When","Hush",and "Cherry Hill Park"

During the 1980s, Billy Joe scored several top 10 country hits including "Tell It Like It Is," "Burned Like a Rocket," and "I'll Pin a Note on Your Pillow." As his rejuvenated career as a country music hitmaker quieted down, he followed up with bookings throughout the 1990s in large country music bars and became a very-popular act on that circuit.

I saw him twice at a nightclub in Alexandria, Louisiana back in the early eighties. To the first lady that answered, I believe that was more than two or threee years ago. That song came out in the 70's.
