3 x^2 - 8 y^2
= 3*36 - 8*1
= 108 - 8 = 100

Well, if x is minus 6, the x^2 = 36.
So 3x^2 is 3*36 = 108.

if y is minus 1, then y^2 = 1.
So 8y = 8.

So the answer is 108 - 8 = 100.
