Generally you need all four. Reasons are as follows. if it is AWD then the transfer case will think there is a problem as the tires rotate at different speeds due to total circumfrance being different.

Relitively the same issue with two wheel drive because you have ABS and that system depends on wheel speed sensors to give an accurate reading of rotational issues. If it does not get acceptable data, the ABS can set off the trouble light and the abs will be shut down until the issue is resolved.

You can buy as many as you want or can afford. Unless you have changed one or two, they are probably all worn about the same. It is a common practic to replace two tires at a time. Putting the new ones on the front & the best two out of the four old ones on the rear.

Its best to buy tires in pairs of two. If you need to replace 1 in the front, then replace both of the front ones or if its 1 in the rear then replace both in the rear. It also depends on the wear on your tires. Say if one of the front tires is fairly new and you need to replace the other one in the front, then you don't need to replace 2, just replace the one thats bad. If all of your tires are worn down then replace all 4. It is recommended that you replace either the front set or the rear set at a time because you having different treads or different wears might cause the car to veer to right/left.

If there's plenty of tread left on 2 of the tires, you can safely replace only the 2 that are more worn. The new tires must be on the same end of the vehicle, preferably the front. Ideally the new tires should be the same kind as the other 2.

Most vehicle manufacturers recommend the replacement of all 4 tires, that is fairly common among the industry however... if your vehicle is AWD (all wheel drive) or 4WD (four wheel drive) the differential of the vehicle is turning all the wheels and attempting to turn them at the same speed. The differences in overall diameter of a new tire vs. a used tire can cause serious and expensive damage to the transfer case and/or the differential.

If the dealer says you need 4 it's because all 4 are unsafe. It is better to replace all the tires at the same time, but you don't have to. They dealer wouldn't suggest repairs that are not needed.

Yes you buy only two but it depends on how bad the tires are. If only two are pretty bad than buy two . Than put the new ones on the front and the old ones on the back. Than first chance go buy the other two .

You can buy just one if you want to.Dealers want to make as much money off you as they can. Go to a tire store like Big-O or les Swab. Never buy from a dealer. Thier prices are 4 times higher than any parts store.

that dealer is just trying to get some more money off of you. you dont have to buy all 4 if you dont need them. you can even buy only 1 tire if you like, as long as you get the same size and tread design.
