^^ ya, um no. Though AMD did control the CPU market for the past few yrs over Intel, intel has recently won it back thanks to the Core 2 duo. the Core 2 Duo is unmatched by any of AMD's processors, com binding the use of high speed processors with an enormous amount of cache.

The core 2 duo is better, and will last u longer than the x2 5600 which is nearing the line of mid/low end processors.

i would have to completly dissagree with the above answer, the Intel is much much better. Many people only look at the GHz to determin how good the processor is, but there are many other things affecting the speed.

Intel is better because:

-65nm (makes the processor smaller and faster)
-Runs cooler (i have the exact 2 CPUs on different systems and the intel w/stock cooler runs cooler then an AMD with an artic pro 64)
-4mb L2 Chase, shard between the 2 cores
-no pins to bend
-good stock cooler
- Amazing overclocker!!!!!!!!

AMD is worse because:
-pins to bend
-bad stock cooler
-90nm processor (makes it bigger, and it takes longer for data to travel)
-not as good for over clocking
- 1mb of L2 chase for each core (2mb total)

Don't Just look at GHz!!!

I have the same 2 processors, and the intel system is much faster

For the below answer, I would not say that the AMD is a mid to low end processor, it is high end, just not at the core 2 duo level

The Athlon 64 X2 5600+ is a beast. It's cheap for it's power, and can be overclocked to speeds up to 3.5 GHz. This AMD card is one for the best on the market for it's price.

The Athlon cpu. It has more bang for your buck, good actual performance for multi-tasking environments, and generally generates less heat than the Intel counterpart. Don't think that either cpus will improve gaming performance though.
