There are only 9 hours between noon and 9pm. If you have two five-hour schedules (10 hours) and want to make sure that at least one person is there every one of those nine hours, you'd one hour of overlap.

You work 12pm to 5pm.
Your brother works 4pm to 9pm.

You're both present 4pm to 5pm.

Simple. You work from 12PM to 5PM. Your brother works 4PM to 9PM. Both of you work 5 hours with a one hour overlap to exchange information and deal with the homeward bound traffic.

simple
You each work 4 hours alone, and 1 hour together. Your 4 hours alone are exclusive of the period 5:00 - 7:30 when you cannot be there.

for example
you: 12 - 5
brother: 4 - 9

that's not authentic that's 24 hours beacuse the entire quantity of time consistent with day is 8 hrs. that's from 10am to 6pm that's 8 hrs. given which you're working for 3 days, it may well be 8*3 that's 24 hrs.
