Straight news programs will report the news as it comes regardless if it makes Democrats or Republicans look bad. They did it against Clinton, Gray Davis, Gary Condit, and Howard Dean (for the scream). The individual reporters may have biases, but they try their best to remain objective.

The opinion media, on the other hand, picks a side and demonizes the other. They throw objectivity off the table and project their biases for all their worth. They look for stories that make the other side look bad and defend their side regardless of what they're caught doing. For example, Oreilly defending Rush Limbaugh's addiction.

That's what Fox News is mostly: OPINION MEDIA.

If you look at their line up it is mostly one right-wing pundit show ("news analyses show") after another.

That's why liberals pick on Fox News the most, because they have an over aboundance of right-wing pundits with their own show, but no liberals with their own show.

The other networks do the same thing with Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck, Joe Scarborough.

As far as I know, there is only one liberal pundit with his own show on cable news: Keith Olbermann.

LET ME ADD,

That the straight news media has been accused so much of having a "liberal bias" by conservatives, they have gone out of their way to take it easy on Republicans.

For example, they made a big deal out of the Dean scream and the Clinton affair. They covered the scream for weeks and the Clinton affair for what seemed like a year.

However, when Jeff Gannon, fake reporter with a fake name who threw softball questions to Bush and demonized gays was caught posting naked pictures of himself at military escort websites, the so called liberal media spent what seemed like a day on it.

You know if it had happened under Clinton, it would have been covered for weeks.

Bruce,

If the straight news media is "liberal media" they would have not covered the Clinton scandal or the Howard Dean scream for as long as they did. They would not have have dismissed the Jeff Gannon scandal either.

The opinion media, on the other hand, tends to ignore stories and defend their side when they are caught. For example, Bill Oreilly inviting two guests to defend Rush Limbaugh's addiction. Both of them were pro-Rush Limbaugh and they were all screaming at each other too eventhough they were saying the same thing.

It was eerie!

all I know is... about 75 percent of the "factual cite links" from other websites they use... are actually links to opinion pieces... many of which don't bother to say where they got the info from...

so, I would have to say... many don't seem to...

If you watch just the Orielly show, which is an opinion show, you would come away thinking all they ever do is bash the left leaning news. If you watch their news and really compare them, you will see the differences. For instance the buses that sat in New Orleans during the flooding. All the news reported that, but fox also told us that those same buses were used with the mayor's permission to transport voters on election day in order to get Senator Mary Landrieu elected. I don't remember what show it was on, probably one of their debate shows like Beltway boys which features journalists from the entire spectrum, not just conservatives. This is only one example. Did all the other news agencies not know about it? They would be a poor source of information if so. Let's give them the benefit of doubt for a moment, an assume they have a competent crew of researchers and they did know. Why didn't they bring it up? Would it make the mayor (Dem) or the president (Rep) look bad?
Nancy Pelosi's visit to the middle east was heralded by mainstream media as a successful step in the middle east peace process. Fox told us Pelosi didn't negotiate anything and her visit was not official. I saw nobody deny or retract what Fox reported. No rebuff from Pelosi either.
My mind is made up about the mainstream media bias and I depend on Fox for the real news.

Ahh FOX does so have liberals with their own show... Geraldo Rivera, plus Alan Colmes is the co-host of Hannity and Colmes!

Besides, FOX is filling a void in the media market, created by an overabundance of liberal stations! If not for FOX there would be no conservative leaning stations! Is that what you libs want, a total liberal media monopoly?? How un-American!

Mrtryitall, I was at that rally, not to mention channel 4 news (CBS) covered the 300+ global warming rally, then panned the cameras into the 7000+ tax cut rally to portray as if everyone showed up for the global warming rally! They didn't mentino the tax cut rally at all, yet had 6 different links for the global warming one!

Like I said in your last question, of course the liberal media would have covered the Clinton scandal you twit! It was the biggest story in years! It'd be foolish not to, many of those stations stuck up for Clinton in an obscure way. Besides, I have heard FOX criticize Bush quite a few times and cover stories that may make him look bad to some! SO that point is moot!

Whether you are leaning right or left, the one thing I truly believe is that the difference between the "opinion media and straight news" is no longer as obvious as it once was. It has become fuzzy and blurred by the constant barrage of biased "news" from both sides of the isle - Fox and MSNBC almost seem like two opposing sides of a debating team, yet both profess to telling the "straight" news.
If you want the straight scoop, you must watch and listen to as many sources as possible and determine the reality for yourself.

You have night blindness....
You have been watching the very VERY left "news" media so long anything not left must be wildly right....
It's like sitting in the dark for years... even a little light comes on and you can't see a thing.
To give an example of your "news" media. In St. Paul 7000+ people rallied on the capital grounds against tax increases at the same time 300+ rallied across the street for the environment. Not only did not one newspaper or news show even mention the tax rally, they all talked about the environmental rally. To make matters worse they even used video footage of the tax rally and called it the political rally!!! Sounds unbiased to me!

After reading countless comments from cons on the subject, and reading their answers to your question here, I can say I have no doubt that they have no clue! I watched Fox recently just for entertainment. How can anyone take them seriously!? ~

It would help if the MSM didn't gush over every Democrat with a new book out while spiking any interviews with Republican authors.

By the way every time a Democrat flip-flops on an issue and then attributes their old stand to those "evil Republicans, the MSM pays no notice to the hypocrisy.

Also, by the way, the Swift Boat veterans were NEVER interviews by the MSM when they had Serious Charges against Kerry. But when Democrat makes Serious Charges against a Republican, it'sf "Oh, we've got to get to the bottom of this, these are Serious Charges."

Hypocrisy thy name is Democrat and their Democrat operatives in the MSM.

Are you kidding me? All media is based on opinion. The news outlets will always tell you what they WANT you to hear and anything that makes their side look bad is not reported. You've gotta have the mental capacity of a freaking four-year-old to have not figured that out yet.

here is some opinion media news for you, you are full of crap and they all reported the same things just in possibly different ways.
I challenge you to prove that your so called straight news lacks opinion.
I personally watch very little of it any more, but I guaranty you that any news no matter how it's presented is going to be biased in some way by opinion. it's foolish to believe otherwise.

I'll bet you think CNN is straight news. LOL
BTW I wonder why Fox news is the most watched. Maybe because conservatives out number liberals.
