Ladies, I am ignorant on this subject. I have full custody and I am a single guy. Her Nana told me she had some what appeared to be blood spots on her panties. She was getting ready to get into the pool & she noticed this. My 10 year old was born premature by 2 months. What do I need to do? Like I said I have no clue & im sure I have a lot to learn.

Of course she can. perfectly normal. Has anyone expained all this to her. She certainly is old enough. I doubt the premature birth had anything to do with it. I started at 11. It can be a tough time for a young lady. She can begin having cramps and symptoms before her period. If you or Nana feel uneasy talking to her, my all means it is time for a trip to the doctor--a female would be the best. She needs to know all of this is normal and a part of life. You may want to check into the ppv vacine that I think all young woman should have.If she hasn't started, it won't be long. SOmetimes the first one is very scant, her body is revving up so to speak. I know you love her, so prepare her, and give her all the natural facts about woman and men. BEst of luck.ps don't let her have her first one withour being prepared. It is scary and don't refer to it as being sick as my Mom did. She didn't know better.

Yes sir, it is very possible for your daughter to have started her period at 10 years old. I started mine at 10. I had both parents but only my father was home the day I started my cycle. I was just very fortunate that he knew how to handle the situation and advised me to get a pad out the bathroom cabinet and put it on. It would be a good thing for you to have open communication with your daughter as she grows & develops. Don't overburden her & get her alot of love & support. As the years go by, make sure there are a lot of pads & tampons in stock at the house. I know you might not want to think about this, but if your daughter has any problems with her cycle, she might have to get put on birth control pills to keep it regulated.

It's possible. I know two people who started at 8.
Since you don't have any experience, I'd listen to her Nana. Just make sure she has pads and tampons around. She might be embarrased because you're a guy, so just try to stay calm and cool about it.

If you don't think it's her period, you may want to take her to a doctor to make sure it's not an infection of some sort.
Good luck!

Yes it is possible and normal . Both my sisters started at 9 and my friend started at the age of 8 . It does seem rather young but its perfectly normal . Girls bodies mature at different rates . My mother started at the age of 18 . Just read up on the subject and get some literature for girls your daughters age . And make sure your daughter has a woman that you trust so she can talk to about these kind of things . She might feel uncomfortable talking to you and vice versa . Also I commend you for stepping up to the plate and raising your daughter . GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU BOTH

The range of when a girl is likely to get her first period goes from 9-16 years old, so it is quite likely that your daughter has started her period (regardless of weight; everyone's hormones are different).
A few tell tale signs that her body is physically ready to start menstruating is developing breasts and body hair.
If you dont feel comfortable asking her whats going on then send her to a website like this : www.beinggirl.ca
It talks about having your first period and what you will need, etc.
But what you should do is be there for her and its probably a good idea to buy a pack of pads and liners (just in case)

GREETINGS, yes it's possible, most girls start between 9-14. has she had cramps or anything? Can her Nana explain things to her? The first one is usually just spotting, so some lightday pantiliners should do the trick but next time she'll probably need a regular maxi pad. They usually talk to girls in 4th grade about female health and periods are one of the topics but some schools don't participate so if not, then one of you get sthe full job.

Blood could actually be a sign of a bladder infection, but it is possible to get a period at ten, a couple of my friends did, mine was at 11. Just get her some of the essentials... like pads and pantie liners, if you have a friend who is a girl i'm sure they'd be willing you help you and your little girl out. Also you probably want to offer her some tylenol or ibprofen.

Unfortunately girls are getting their periods earlier and earlier. Most professionals agree that this is due to the hormones given to cows to help them produce milk. The hormone gets passed to the milk.

You need to talk with a female that you know well and that your daughter knows well. You will learn what you need to know and the lady can make herself available to talk to your daughter since she will probably be to embarassed to talk to you. You might have a sister or even her Nana help you with this. They can also help you buy the necessary supplys and help your daughter learn how to use them.

Your daughter needs to learn about the birds and the bees because unfortunately 13 year olds are having babies.

Good luck, this is just the beginning!

Yes it is very possible to start a period at ten years old. It has nothing to do with being fat, all girls mature differently and hit puberty at different ages. I started mine at ten and other women in my family also did too. A girl can start her perion anytime from ages 9 to 14, if you don't feel comfortable talking to her about it have your mother or some other woman do it, try to do it before she starts so she will not be scared if it happens, I should say when it happens, its just part of being a girl. And again I repeat it has nothing to do with being fat, I was not even close to being fat when I was ten.

There have been girls age 6 start them. I started mine at age 11 & that was pretty early. Make sure that she hasn't been abused by someone (I know you don't want to even think that). It's also possible that she could've wrecked on a bike (I did). You need to make an appointment with her Dr. The Dr. can answer any questions you may have & can make sure everything is alright.

What age did her mom start? Sometimes girls follow their mother's pattern of mensturation.
