Due to circumstance unknown you are in the centre of a courtyard. There are many exits you can leave by but each exit is covered by a gang each gang is defined by race.

Which exit would you choose to leave by?
And what race are you?

If you wont walk through a group of people because they are a different colour, what does that say about you. Personally I'm a white man who grew up in Stockwell, I'd walk through Peckham and Brixton at the dead of night and never had any problems. My granddad was a stone cold racist, we used to play shoot the black man when I was a toddler, the game consisted of a window and an imaginary rifle and whenever a black person drove or walked by the window we'd shoot him. I went to a mixed school and was the one of the shortest kids in the year, I was bullied by black kids and yeah I hated them for it and still wished that it didn't happen and yeah I think that was race motivated. I've got every excuse to be a racist but I'm not, I'm not a racist because I know that people are either arseholes or not and there are just as many white idiots and thieves and muggers as there are black ones just the same as there are racists of every colour. So which way would I go, I'd go the way that was the quickest.

Would leave by the exit that had the gang that most closely resembled me by race and language - I am white and Irish. Pragmatically, in such a situation, is better to choose what is familiar than that which is not.

That being said, could be a very bad mistake if the gang turned out to be Orangemen - but then, I would know that by their accent.

I'd invite all the gangs to have a game of Monopoly with me in the middle of the courtyard and when they were arguing over who owed what on what hotel or other, I'd sneak off down the nearest exist - talk about a stupid question!

Am I racist duhhhh? Do I prefer one race over another duhhhh!

I would probably go to the exit where i would get the most challenge because 1. if i'm going to die i would rather go out fighting & i would like to take as many of my enemies with me as possible & 2. knowing that my choice of gang to exit by would be 'skin heads', even if they allowed me to pass in peace, i would stay & cause sh!t just for the hell of it cause i don't like racists.

That is EXTREMELY tough. I honestly don't know. Can't i just lay in the middle of the courtyard and hang out?

Well, first of all... I'd only go through one that spoke english... because i'm NOT gonna fight someone in a language i don't know.

I honestly don't know... Are there weapons present? haha

And i'm white.

And for some reason...i feel simple politeness won't work if they're GANGS. I guess that's just my Criminal Justice degree coming out...

I go out the exit that is closest to my destination. I walk over, politely say "excuse me" and go on my merry way.

Why does it matter what skin color I am if I choose to be polite to people and not define them and their potential actions based on skin color?

Never mind that I've actually worked with gang kids for YEARS now, and know for a fact that politeness does work, instead of justice degree stereotyping.

naturally I would go to the exit that has my race there. What race you ask? That is irrelevent.
