When Rush Limbaugh has more listeners than NPR, or Tom Clancy sells more books than Noam Chomsky, or Motor Trend gets more subscribers than Mother Jones, liberals want to convince us (or themselves, perhaps) that it’s all because of some catastrophic market failure or a grand corporate conspiracy to dumb down the masses.
In reality, it’s just the result of consumer choice.
All the opinions that the Left’s media critics favor are now readily available to us via multiple platforms.
But that’s not good enough, it seems: they won’t rest until all of us are watching, reading, and listening to the content that they prefer.

Jonah Goldberg shows that the original fascists were really on the Left and that liberals, from Woodrow Wilson to FDR to Hillary Clinton, have advocated policies and principles remarkably similar to those of Hitler’s National Socialism.
Goldberg draws striking parallels between historic fascism and contemporary liberal doctrines. He argues that “political correctness” on campuses and calls for campaign finance reform echo the Nazis' suppression of free speech; and that liberals, like their fascist forebears, dismiss the democratic process when it yields results they dislike, insist on the centralization of economic decision-making, and seek to insert the authority of the state in our private lives–from bans on smoking to gun control.

The Fairness Doctrine is the best euphemism since the War Department was "changed" to the Department of Defense.
When Rush gets the ratings - and that's the bottom line for the station owners - and Air America crashes and burns - the liberals would have us think that surely there must be something inherently wrong with either free speech or the free market system. It's interesting when you consider the mainstream media as a whole is basically about 80% biased toward the liberal agenda, and what do they constantly whine about? Fox News.
If they really want "fairness" in broadcasting, they would step back and take an unbiased look at the nightly newscasts - yeah, like that's going to happen.
More importantly, one must remember that those who control the dissemination of information to the people will ultimately control the people. That's a pretty powerful incentive for any the ego maniacs in Washington to want to spin the news in favor of their agenda. Perhaps that's why Chavez recently took over the broadcast stations in Venezuela.
This dangerous legislation should die in its tracks. It's time to pull in the reins on any representative who endorses such legislation that encourages more government control over our freedoms - it's simply an un-American agenda.

It is certainly an attempt at squelching the conservative voice. The problem becomes the solution in this case. Government doesn't do anything well. It will fail. Like squeezing a balloon, it will bulge out somewhere else. The voices of freedom will be heard and heeded.

The answerer who said the proposal before Congress only involved 3 members needs to be reminded that they were 3 democrat members and that is, as we have been saying, the direction the party is taking - without doubt.

Conservative talk shows are the balance since we have a liberal biased media. hollywood liberals hate conservatives and spew their filth all over television and the big screen now. they have no rigjt to tell anyone what they can say or not say on the air waves. Look at the liberal bias of Dan Rather, Barbara Walters, Campbell brown etc

You simple child, the Fairness Doctrine is about as likely to be revived as Prohibition.
Yes it is consumer choice that drives the markets, and there are enough consumers for liberal and conservative outlets. The market as I see it is perfect as-is. If I want to hear mostly conservative opinion, I'll listen to Bill O'Reilly or Joe Scarborough; for mostly liberal commentary I can listen to Keith Olbermann (is he a liberal?) or as you mentioned Noam Chomsky.
No one is trying to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, and there are only about three members of Congress (Out of 535) who have stated support of such a bill.

Liberals try to supress conservative speech. If it was up to them both Limbaugh and Fox News would not be allowed to exist. They call anything they don't agree with propaganda when the truth is that what they believe is really the propaganda.

Finally someone brings the real fascist topic to light....the media
the reason everyone hates bush....or thinks that they started global warming. And sadly it has seeped into small town media as well.
No solution except to think for yourself and do not fact check on the Internet
