The surface of the moon changes very slowly because of the lack of any wind or water erosion. If aliens ever visited the earth and moon, surely there would be some debris or garbage leftover from their trip. To me this would be the main reason for us to return to the moon, to search a large percentage of the moon's surface in search of alien artifacts.

I think it's one of those six-of-one, half-a-dozen of-the-other propositions. Yes, if aliens were ever on the moon, their debris would surely still be there. (Even the human footprints in the dust will still be there millions of years from now.) But there might be little reason for aliens to ever land there. Keep in mind, their vehicles would have to be interstellar, so it's not like they need to land on such a desolate rock as the moon. But they might have, if they ever existed.
On the other hand, if they visited here, which would be much more likely, any small remnants left by them would most likely be completely gone, if they were here more than a few thousand years ago.

An exciting thought, but the problem is that we have absolutely zero evidence that aliens even exist; and if they do exist, we have no reason to believe they'd have gone to our moon; and if they did go to the moon, we have no reason to believe they'd have left any artifacts; and if they did leave any artifacts; we don't have a clue where to start looking for them. We would be spending lots and lots of money on a wild speculation with no reasonable expectation of any payoff. Try getting THAT through congress!

Unless we develop much better detection technology the chances of finding any artifacts on the moon are next to zero. No one involved with moon missions has ever advocated such a search.

How primitive and presumptuous that any such aliens would trash the Moon as casually as teenagers trash our subdivision streets with their fast food garbage and empty six-packs. Wouldn't be done by intelligent life.

Not necessarily. In the past, the moon had a very violent history. So it would depend on when the artifacts were let behind.

If there are alien artifacts on the moon, then I suppose they would be easy to find... the premise is a bit sketchy though
