Most folks (including cosmologists) have it wrong; it wasn't an infinitely dense singularity, the inside of a black hole dropping out of the 'other' universe, or a collision of sheets and branes. Actually, it was a vast unzipping of probabilities and certain 'special' functions (in 10 dimensions of course).
It all depends on whether or not the universe is chiral and the 'extra' dimensions have 'size.' Maybe published later?
Philosophically however, one mystic's definition of the universe is (approximately):
> the universe is how the 'original mind' expresses itself on this plane of existence and
> your body and it's perception of the universe's appearance is how the original mind perceives your being on this same plane, so
> the big bang either never happened (no beginning to God) or
> it was a prank to give you something to think about (infinite includes an infinite sense of humor that we might not think is very funny sometimes).
Really want to know? go ask Kaku.

The "Big Bang", to me, is Genesis I, verse 3: And G-d said: 'Let there be light'. And there was light.
The order of creation through the rest of Genesis I essentially matches the development of the earth and its species, allowing for G-d to be the originator of the process. Bringing G-d into the system drives the pure "evolutionists" nuts. The length of time needed to have each step along the way match the geological evidence requires the pure "creationists" to accept that the various steps in the Bible are the results of G-d directing the changes needed for each stage of development in a gradual fashion over billions of years. Bringing time into the system drives the pure "creationists" nuts.
However, if the two groups would allow for a relatively minor addition to their stances, they just might find that they are actually in basic agreement.

A tiny little almost imperceptible fart occurring in a place so small that it felt cataclysmic. the chain reaction thing exaggerated that and so on and so forth.
Why do you guys keep talking about the beginning of earth? it's about the universe not just your silly insignificant planet. Get down off your self important little high horses and look how freakin' small you are! You're a speck dudes and dudettes a bloody speck.
