Isn't READING something that you are voting on the only way to know what your decision is?

Why are we paying these people????

old news.
how do you think they were for it before they were against it?

It wouldn't REALLY matter much anyway. They've coat tailed so many garbage bills and struck so many deals to get their own little pet projects passed. It's become an "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" situation that it's nolonger about what We The People want or what is believed to be either right or for the good of the country... It's also why looking at one's track record on voting doesn't even begin to tell the REAL story. They've spent more time out of session than in. And yes, we're paying for it. Big Time.

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised.

Often these bills can be hundreds of pages long, and given the intrusiveness of the federal government, I'm sure that there are many of them floating around on the Hill.

I would imagine that key people responsible for drafting the bill have their office type it up, inform those in their party how they should vote on said bill, and then it gets sent to committee, blah, blah, blah.

I had to do a term paper on Grover Cleveland in high school. It was said that he would often stay awake to the wee hours of the morning reading over bills. Somehow, I don't think today's elected officials are as diligent.

I've forgotten the name of the Congressman who recently ranted that Congress passed an amendment to the Iraq funding bill from the White House. One of the steps that the Iraqi Congress had to take was to share the oil wealth with the Kurds and Sunnis. What Dems didn't realize is that 80% of the oil fields had to be opened up to private investors, i.e. the oil companies!
Congress voted without even realizing what they were voting on. That Bushcheneyrove 3 headed monster is sneaky!!

I am just impressed that they are admitting to something!

I also want to know why a bill can be passed by a majority vote and then the president being one man can turn it down!

I would rather be in this country than any other but we need some HUGE changes in the government!

I've seen some of them admit it as an excuse.
They say ignorance of the law is no excuse - just another
example of how they live by completely different set
of rules.
They should be held accountable - Republicans & Democrats. I mean, geez, with the taxes we pay, & the
vacation time they think they're 'entitled' to, they could
at least read what we are paying for.
Disturbing.

I don't think that any bill should be passed that has not been thoroughly read by every person voting on it, and I don't believe that the people should be excluded from giving their input, regarding any bill that directly or indirectly affects their lives. *sm*

yes, I believe it. I think it's meant to be that way. they purposely are made to be way to many pages for any normal person to read in a reasonable amount of time and gain any real comprehension so that they will float through on pure here say.

No they don't....

That is why marijuana was made illegal in 1937...they didn't realize exactly what they were voting on and took Harry Anslingers word for it. (That's an actual fact....look it up)

That is also why our country is going to sh!t.
