I'm running Windows XP and every time i go to turn off my computer there is this little security symbol next to the turn off button and it says "Click here to install important updates before turning off your computer".

This is probably normal, but do i really need these updates and is it normal for it to happen every time i try to turn off my computer??

Microsoft issues new Windows Updates on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. So I suspect that you are way behind in updating your Windows. Perhaps you recently re-installed Windows?

Yes, Windows updates are extremely necessary. Windows has more security holes then a pound of Swiss cheese and Microsoft is always issuing patches to plug these holes. An un-updated Windows computer is at severe risk of being compromised by the various malwares.

You could go to the Windows Update website and get all of your updates at once. Simply click Tools then Windows Update and follow the prompts.

Yes, you need the updates. They are coming from windows updates, and if you just turn the computer off, they will load on your computer, and then it will shut down. Whenever there are important updates for your computer, and you have not downloaded them, according to the schedule you have set up, then they will come automatically..It is not normal for them to show up everytime you turn the computer off, unless you did not load them the previous time. I would say, yes get them, or else they would not be there in the first place..Good Luck..

I would install those updates and make your computer safe from viruses and spyware the best way you should update your computer is by clicking start all programs than on the top it says "Windows Update" There you can install all those updates after you finished installing the updates there maybe some more after the restart.

XP should have another feature to access updates in the start menu. Mine says Microsoft Update. Go there & let them tell you what you need. Click on the Express feature & they'll scan your PC for high priority\recommended updates. They'll need to verify your XP isn't stolen, then download & install, probably, Windows Genuine Advantage. I'd let them, but it's up to you. It'll stay on your PC & make it simple everytime you go back or get messages. All updates are up to you, though.

If you install the updates, that little symbol will go away until the next round of updates comes around.

It is always best to get those updates. As the new threats emerge, Microsoft is doing their best to keep up with them via the updates and it is not wise to pass up perfectly good, FREE updates to improve the OS and it's security.

It's usually best to install the updates. You probably keep getting the message because you aren't installing them. As soon as you do, you won't get the message again for a while.

yes you need them and the reason its doing it when you switch off is because at some stage someone has been in to the update settings on your pc and set them up like that you can easily change it to do the updates whenever you want to.
