"A person deserves to be treated as an adult if they act as one."
so if an 11 year old were to start acting "adultish", you'd give them more freedom and think they were mature enough to handle adult responsibilities?

"Yes but still need parents advice,They have already gone thru this stage And want you to go thru it easyer,And if i were you i would listen to what you are being told.it is not easy being a parent, we only want the best for our children. And want them to be better advanced than we are.so listen up kid and take your parents advice.and heed it."
I always do. And I don't think that 23 is a kid do you? And I know what parents go through and their responsibilities so I don't want kids when I get older. Too much worry and responsibility. Maybe I'll change my mind later who knows.

Hello Rice. I think in this day and age many 19 yr olds are much more maturer than when I was that age. Look at all those young men and women in Iraq ! But it is the same with most countries. The age makes little difference. It is the breeding that counts. Depending how your parents have brought you up. Then yes! Nineteen year olds count as Adults. It does surprise me when I read of some of the young adults in the states; whose parents appear to treat them as children. Instead of giving them the respect they deserve. It is a gift to have children. However I'm sure your well aware that there are always going to be exceptions to the rule.As a parent I think teenagers need to earn the right to be considered Adult.

I don't believe we can qualify a person's maturity based on their chonological age number. Maturity is a matter of the level of thinking and acting, and the perceptions and character of a person, and how they treat other people.
I do believe that a 19 year old has the potential to be mature, but I would perceive a person's maturity level case-by-case, upon a personal relationship with them, or at least having knowledge of how this person behaves. I know plenty of people who are younger than 19 and are far mature for their age. I also know many people who are a much, much older age than that, and who still act very immature.
Maturity comes when one has knowledge and uses that knowledge in a good way, or to solve a problem, or what have you, and thence this act becomes one of wisdom. To have knowledge is one thing. To use it is another.
I feel that one deserves to be treated in direct or indirect proportion to how they act. If one acts in a mature manner - they have earned the reward of being treated as a mature person, and yet this does not always mean one will get treated in direct proportion to how they act - only that actions beget consequences. Therefore one cannot pick up one end of the stick without picking up the other.
One may act maturely, and still be treated in an unfair manner by another immature person. This is all a part of interpersonal relationships. One learns how to deal with all types, and also how to treat everyone with respect, regardless of how they treat you. This is also maturity.
As one so aptly stated: It is one thing to stare up the steps, but another to step up the stairs. One can know the way, but unless you put that knowledge in motion, it cannot benefit you much.

I think that upon reaching the legal age to be considered an adult, some people are. But I will be honest, when I was 19, I was surely not mature enough to be considered an adult. In fact, I always dated older women in hopes of having a person give me advice, etc. By the way, my judgement wasn't perfect and sometimes it led to me getting hurt. But I think that maturity varies person to person, most young people continue to mature as they progress through adulthood. While this is true, some people never grow up, and they should be viewed as an exception to this unwritten rule. There isn't any substitute for experience when it comes to maturity.

Age is nothing but a number. It all depends on their experiences. You could have a 19 year old who has been spoiled their whole life, and has never seen a hard time .....of course youre going to get immaturity. Then you could have a 19 year old who had no choice but to raise all of their siblings, people close to them passed away etc. You think they’re going to be immature? Or at least as immature at the first 19 year old? No. Its all about levels of maturity based on experience. I know some 19 year olds who are more mature than some adults in their 50's.
Experience, experience, experience :)

it depends on the people. I would have to know the person. Of course everyone's maturity level depends on their background and their personality. But I have met some mature 19 year olds so I say it is a possibility. Plus, I am only 17 and I am pretty mature.

I think at 19 years old you should be considered and treated like an adult. But that doesn't mean all 19 year olds are mature or act their age.

Sure,if they act like adults. I know people in their forties who act more immature than a 19 year old. If they are constantly asking for money and refuse to get a job and go to school then I'd say they're not very mature.

Depends on the 19 yr old in question...maturity is not an exact science...I know 30 yr olds that don't deserve to be treated like adults.

I think any human being, from birth to death, "deserves" to be treated in a manner consistent with the behaviors displayed.
If a 19 year old person acts like a two year old, guess what? that is how he gets treated.
