San Francisco hands down.

Better nightlife, better economy, better shopping, better quality of life, better diversity, better culture, better restaurants, better history.

Seattle has more rain, and a much higher suicide rate, got to give them that.

While both are great and beautiful cities, San Francisco attracts far more tourists than Seattle. California welcomes about 41 million visitors a year. Washington State only gets about 5 million.

Roughly 16 million of those California visitors spend at least 2 nights in San Francisco. This makes it one of the major tourism-friendly cities in the United States (along with New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Honolulu, and Orlando).

By virtue of this fact alone, San Francisco has superior hotels, culture, nightlife, and shopping. It also has a far more comprehensive public transportation system.

I've lived outside of SF for years, and have visited Seattle several times since my sister moved there. Basically, the weather in Seattle depresses me. It's fine for a few days, but I can't imagine living there after enjoying California weather for so many years. Aside from that, it is a nice place to visit. SF is much more culturally diverse and has more to do.

:)

I think that depends on the person. I love SF to visit so much to do and see but I would not live there for the same reasons I love to visit there are just too many people too many cars too many tourists. Seattle is awesome it is cleaner it does rain but not as much as everyone says. It is a great combination of college town and large metro. Lots to see and do especially if you like the outdoors. Great bars and clubs. And the economy is very good it is a great time and place to buy a house right now.

As someone who's lived in both, Seattle, hands down. The rain isn't as bad as everyone makes it sounds. San Francisco is just as cloudy and gloomy. Even if its like 90 degrees around the rest of the bay area, San Francisco will always be like 65-75. Sometimes the fog never burns off and its gray all day, even in summer, so if you're worried about weather its not gonna be much better in SF than Seattle. Seattle is just nicer in general. Its much cleaner also. California is too expensive and overrated.

Why not visit both cities? Both are great tourist attractions. SF has somewhat more to see in terms of tourist attractions, but Seattle isn't exactly chopped liver. Living? I think that the real estate in Seattle is a little cheaper and Seattle is more car friendly. SF has better public transportation partly bc it is less spread out than Seattle. One down side of SF is the large number of non-English speaking ppl. I am not talking about foreign tourists or ppl who speak with a foreign accent. I am referring to ppl who move to SF to live and speak NO English. Excuse me, but when ppl move to an English speaking country, they should not expect the citizens of America to learn 10 different foreign languages. If it were just a matter of learning Spanish, no big deal. But to speak with all of the non-English ppl who moved to SF, you would have to learn about 10 different languages (and still not be able to communicate with all of them). Non-English speaking ppl are far fewer in Seattle. End of sermon. hehe
