I am a middle schooler and I want to start a foundation. I only have volunteer experince. Any websites or info would help A LOT. I want to have it running by the end of summer. I am going to try advertising so any suggestions??? THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!

Also, I am collecting school supplies and starting in my state and growing. It's for kids and teens that don't have as many things or school supplies as most kids and teens do today

What you need to do is develop a business plan. The first thing that you need is a mission statement. In one simple sentence you need to be able to state the goals of your foundation. It is a lot easier to get people to back a clear roadmay showing how you get from A to B than it is to get help on an idea, no matter how god that idea is.pp

I applaud your desire to do something that will make a difference with other people. I have been involved with a non-profit mentoring program for "at-risk" youth since I helped found it nearly nineteen years ago.

Even though what you want to do is not-for-profit, it is still in many ways a business. So, the first step is to create a business plan covering (among other things) what you plan to do, who benefits, who contributes, how the staff required is to be organized, a budget for operations and how you plan to raise the money to do this.

This may sound daunting, but as you struggle through it, seek advice from anyone willing to give it - parents, teachers, people in the business community and in foundations. You can probably get a lot of hints by doing research on the Web (as you have done by asking this question) and in the library.

Eventually you will have to seek the assistance of a lawyer to handle the mechanics of establishing a foundation - and an accountant to handle the bookkeeping and relations with the IRS

What you propose is not easy, but it will be rewarding for yourself as well as others.
