I am considering purchasing the red bellied piranha but do not want to be limited in just owning piranha's in my tank. I know I am at risk by having any other fish in there but I was considering adding Baracuda's and Sting Rays......... Any suggestion?
Is this possible?

Is there any other type of fish that they can co-exist with ?

Let me know

Thanks

Actually the first answer is wrong, their are freshwater stingrays and barracudas. The only problem is that they require A LOT of ground space so i wouldnt really recommend a stingray as for barracudas im not sure ive never owned one.

But their are some freshwater ones.

And about piranhas being brackish water, well im not to familiar with this but i can tell you almost all freshwater fish have some salinity level in their native habitat but i doubt they are brackish since the amazon is quite big and at the mouth where the amazon reachers the ocean their is more freshwater than salt water, since their are a lot of fresh water.

The amazon releases so much freshwater their is almost no salinity in it. So piranhas should be freshwater.

Also the top answerer said get a red bellied pacu but i DO NOT recommend this since they can get up to 48" and would need an aquarium of 200g+

unless you are going to have a huge tank like 500 gallons, i would recommend a species only tank. remember that piranha are schooling fish and the more there are the happier and more interesting they will be. the only fish i would think would be a pleco or two. i hope you plan on a 200 or so gallon tank.
and pacus are BAD ideas. they get massive.

Red Bellies "make their livings "in the wild by eating the fins of other fish.Any tank-mates with fins will suffer. Cuda's and Sting-rays (well most stingrays) are Saltwater fish.

Touching fish damages their slime coat and leaves them open to ailment and parasites. do no longer stick your palms interior the tank, difficulty prevented. Presuming those are purple abdomen piranhas, they could desire to be in a greater team of 5 or greater, and as they get so large (12") their homestead could desire to be over two hundred gallons overfiltered.

barracudas and sting rays are salt water and pirranas are brackish water (live in the amazon). priranahs are not ment for the absolute begginer so if your really want a pirranah and you are a begginer i would buy some red belly pacus, they look just like piranahs and are easier. hope i coould help!
