I guess its kinda my fault. The last two movies that i've watched lately have had these scenes in them! Like, 300 that one scene is nasty and Knocked Up, many of those scenes it felt like. I was just wondering if anyone is as sick of this as i am. I just think its a dumb way to live and it gets ppl bad ideas and recks families. I hope most ppl hate this and hope for the best that would like to stop wanting to see these kinds of things. :)

I haven't seen those movies, but I will comment, if only to give the girl a little support, since no one here seems to think outside of just calling everyone a "homophobe."

Someone wrote that homosexuality has existed pretty much forever. Fine. So, what? Where did the disinclination towards homosexuality amongst pretty much everyone else come from then? Someone can say religion or more specifically, Christianity, but that is nonsense. Religion just manifests what is often already there.

Put it like this. If religion didn't exist, there would still be the disinclination and disapproval of homosexuality, on some level.

Now, I'm not saying that homosexuality ought to be condemned. It ought to be tolerated. But, tolerance doesn't mean that these feelings amongst others who are not homosexual shouldn't exist. This girl feels this way. It is not necessarily taught to her, despite what many will say. Then again, it might be. We don't know. But, we do know that many, many people feel that homosexuality is wrong, on some level. They may not stop others from being who they are, but that doesn't mean they have to like depictions of the thing they dislike.

There was a Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George are thought of being homosexuals. Now, both live in NYC and are in the presence of homosexuals to a degree many are not. But, they didn't want to be thought of as homosexuals--"not that there's anything wrong with it," as they said so often. Yet, they knew there was something wrong with it, even if it is for them. That is, if there was truly nothing wrong with it, then they wouldn't be bothered by it at all. But, they were bothered by it, although they weren't going to say that people who are gay shouldn't be. They were tolerant of others being gay, but still didn't think being gay was necessarily right.

Look, I don't know much about this girl. Maybe some of her opinions will change on some matters, but maybe not. But, if she doesn't, so what? The truth is the vast majority of humanity--across all historical periods and pretty much all cultures--has had a distaste for homosexuality. Because it is so universal, it can't be attributed to just culture.

Yes, you can bring up the minority of cultures where it was promoted, but even then there are caveats.

In any case, most often the distaste is natural.

I grew up in Greenwich Village. Even the kids who grew up there, that weren't gay, still found some distaste towards it. Adolescent boys finding themselves interested in girls, even there, found the idea of homosexuality so contrary to their selves, that even if they didn't go around saying insulting remarks about others, still would joke with themselves.

And these kids were around gay guys all of the time!

Essentially, they tolerated it with others but didn't endorse it. It was an irony, in a way, that the kids from NYC were like this, but the transplants sort of overcompensated and said things they really didn't believe--like homosexuality was equal to heterosexuality and they had no problems with it at all. Maybe they overcompensated because they were from some town in Ohio or something and had to act like they were much more sophisticated than they actually were.

In any case, these kids often still had the feeling that this wasn't quite right. They might not care about being opposed to say, gay marriage, but that doesn't mean that is the same as saying that homosexuality was equal to their own heterosexaulity. They just believe and FEEL that it isn't.

And that is what this is all about: feelings. Gays don't understand that others don't feel like them, to a great extent. For example, gays don't necessarily have the distaste for heterosexual relations, but primarily disinterest. The same is not the case for heterosexuals, who have a personal distaste and a disinterest. This is just a generalization.

But, the feelings cannot really change and so there will always be some sort of an impasse. I think gays need to accept that this is the case. I am not saying that they can't be upset when they hear that this is the case, only that what is heard is not necessarily wrong.

Put it like this: if there were equal everything in the law, people would still feel a disinclination towards homosexuality, in general. For humanity, which relies upon heterosexuality to promote the species, and has done so since the first caveman took his first step, to believe in something contrary to that primal instinct, is not going to happen. It just isn't. Thus, homosexuals will have to accept that the disinclination and the distate will exist, no matter what.

To change people to suit your needs is just as wrong coming from heterosexuals as it is from homosexuals.

And if this girl doesn't like depictions of homosexuality, it's her right.

To say "don't watch" is moronic. It's not like the movies are being advertised as "Brokeback Mountain." How in the world is someone supposed to know what is in the movies without watching them?

There's a scene I didn't like in "Team America: World Police." How the hell was I supposed to know that I would not like that scene without watching the movie? Am I supposed to get a detailed account of the movie before I see it? And if so, what would be the point of seeing it?

So, people who say "don't like it, don't watch" are being disingenuous.

This answer was just about the girl's distaste for the subject matter.

Are you for real? The truth is all sorts of people are out there. Gay, straight, drug addicts, pedophiles, racists and the virtuious. Homosexuality should be the least of your worries, compared to all the other bad stuff presented in films these days.

I can see your point about homosexuality being featured in movies for no other reason than to have a gay character; but I have to disagree. The film makers want to protray a believable setting and believable characters. So what if that means there are gay lovers?

I won't comment on "Knocked Up" because I have yet to see the movie; however I definitely agree with you on the lesbians in "300." They were nasty, but it was a "temptation scene" for the hunchback...offering him everything he ever wanted if he betrayed the protagonists. The invading emperor was surrounded by more freaks than Marilyn Manson, but it somehow fits into that carnal desire temptation.

However, forcing homosexuality back into the closet will not change the world; just like having openly gay characters did not turn everybody into homosexuals. People have to discover for themselves whether or not they want to be in bisexual or homosexual relationships. For most of us, the concept is uncomfortable; but that does not mean that homosexuality is evil or disgusting. It is simply something some people do not like.

I think you need to read the ratings more carefully and do some research before going to the theater.

don't like it? don't watch.

simple as that.

**EDIT**

to "nyc" down below:

first off... nice book.

secondly, by "don't watch", i mean if you don't like what you're seeing, GET UP AND LEAVE THE THEATRE! what, are you being held there at gunpoint? why play the "victim card" by saying "i didn't KNOW what was going to happen in that big, bad theatre!" please. YOU'RE still the one who is in control, right? if you don't like it, take meaningful ACTION... complain to the theatre management, write to the company that produced the film, call your congressman... but why come here and WHINE about it?

cripes, i didn't know life was that tough for some folks...

I'm really sick of seeing homophobic straight people in movies. I mean, it totally wrecks families, all of them with their high divorce rate and bigoted intolerance. It's such a dumb way to live, they're constantly trying to ruin people's love because they don't agree with it.
