Locally owned. If you don't know where to eat in a strange city, look for the cop cars. They always know the best places. It has never failed me. I agree, chain restrauants are cutting corners in thier food.

Locally owned restaurants because they seem to go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable rather than just taking your money like the chain restaurants.

Local Owned is always better, food is always better, The Owner is usally around and most the time nice unlike some manager at Mcdonalds thats think they are all that that kiss butt from higher ups.. the prices usally are not to bad. food is always better. but you did list some good restraunts I dont care much for crapplebees but Texas Roas House is good and so is Uno Chicago Bar and Grill. so some chain's are good but there is some bad places that are local owned in St.Louis a place called Hannagain's is the worst place ever, best in St.Louis is Favazza's... but over all Local Owned

Being a local business owner, I understand the value of having my community support me and my family over going to someplace owned by a huge corporation.
Supporting mammoth corporations makes it harder for the smaller people to get a head and grasp hold of some part of the American dream because they have more money available then just us little people.
If you want first rate service and a family atmosphere, go to the people who really appreciate you and who really care and need your business.
Anyhow, back to your question........ I love the little dives or trattoria's tucked away in a strip mall where they make their own breads and sauces. Give me fresh and homemade instead of corporate order and thrown in a pan.
If you ever come to Syracuse, I'd love to show you the foody places!

Locally owned of course. I don't like chain restaurant. They never serve anything good at chain restaurants. Feels like processing food to me.

i was going to say locally owned, but then you listed applebees and i love applebees, so hmm, i think if my parents, friend, or relative owned a restaurant, i would choose theirs over a chain restaurant any day. even if the food wasnt good. i like to support my people, but most of the time, it would just depend on which ones

I prefer the locally owned restaurant because you can branch out your business, gives out new ideas and most of all, you're getting support from your lovely family and friends when you need them the most.

locally owned. Mom & pop. Brother/ sister. Husband wife. family. DEFINITELY. Also, those people eat there, their whole family. Breakfast lunch dinner. Usually do the shopping, too. recipes, etc. Waaaaaaaaaaaay better food.

I prefer the one that has good food and service. Being local or a chain has nothing to do with either one, unless you are talking Friendly's then everything is bad.pp
