i just got my aquarium today and i filled it up with water and put the filter on. but when i plug it in, it doesn't suck up any water and circulate it through. i left it on for probably an hour and it still didn't do anything. am i supposed to let it run for a while? or is there something i'm doing wrong? i can hear the motor running, but the tube that goes into the water doesn't pull up any water. the part that pulls up the water is completely submerged in the water also. it is an aquatech filter, if that helps.

you have to prime the filter -- take the top off and dump water in the top of the filter.

With all filters, the clear plastic tube that goes from the water to the filter must be put on the right intake valve of the filter. Also I suggest pouring some water from the tank directly so as it will help the water flow and the pump to start up quick. Also make sure that the tube that is in the water does not have stones, or any foreign matter trapped. Some times the pump will turn white where the water flows. This is because of the chlorine bleach in the water. Then you will have to have an anti-chlorine treatment to avoid this because this too will stop the flow of water. Also make sure that the wheel that the water turns is in possition and set correctly so as to easily move in rotation as the water flows in. Best of wishes.

Try see if the parts are all on properly(read bottom) and if still not working return it for refund or replacement.

1. Unplug It
2. Take the hose and filter out
3. Take the inside part of the Filtration system out and there should be a small propeler at ther end.(If not return for a replacement.)
4. Put back together and plug it in.
5. Put little water in(you dont need to fill all the WAY up) and wait for 5minutes.

Did you pour water into the filter? You have to put water in there to get it working, the tube won't just pull it all in, until after you get it to start working.

Did you put any water in the filter first? There needs to be water inside the filter to create the suction.

it needs suction to start. youll have to pour water directly into the filter and then plug it in. at the moment its sucking air, thats why its not working. unplug it, put water in, and plug it back in. if this doesnt work, you might have blown the motor leaving it running dry so long.

you have to put water in your filter so it can work
it usally said on the motor it self
"dont run dry"
since you did that turn off your filter
let it cool down and later put water in it
if it still dosent work your motor might be damaged
and will have to be replaced

Unplug it. Fill the box with water until it flows out. Plug back in. It will start pumping but only if its filled with water first.
