We live in Michigan currently (no jobs, high taxes) and are thinking of moving to South Carolina to start a lawn business. We also have 4 month old twins so I am wondering about schools in addition to property taxes, business taxes and income taxes. I know South Carolina has income tax, unlike some states. How is the economy, and how is the weather for a year-round lawn business? Also, is Columbia a good area for lawn business customers and raising kids? Is it more urban or rural? Are there a lot of residences?

Job market is good. Cost of living is low. And, yes, you can do lawn service almost year round (10-11 months for sure).

Downtown Columbia is urban. But, about 20 miles in either direction is relatively rural.
