Yes, he does.
And there are several actors/actresses that are like that... you know, the ones that, while may be talented, still tend to be stuck in the same sort of roles. It annoys me with certain people. Like Kristen Dunst... can you ever imagine her playing anything but a 20-something year old girl/woman in love or something similar? And then there are other actors/actresses that can play any role... Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, they're some. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon... they're pretty good. At least in my opinion. Not saying these are the only ones; just the only ones I can come up with right now.
And I'm probably going to get thumbs down for saying it, but I agree with C.M.

Natalie, you know, I've been wondering the very same thing for a LONG time. I mean, does the producer of the movie just assume it'll be somehow funnier if God is portrayed like you mentioned, "the wise old Black guy". I saw the Jim Carrey version, and Freeman made Carrey's character look like a total fool, while *God* is always calm, and wise and nothing flusters him, as Carrey does his usual prat fall brand of comedy. I've noticed this about Whoopie Goldberg as well. She's the one who teaches the nuns to get their groove on and sing, and teaches them all about the wisdom of street life. I don't think I've EVER seen a movie where God was portrayed as a white guy, do you? It's a weird concept. Another example is Eddie Murphy where he plays the suave, street savvy cop, making fun of the two donut eating white cops...it's a very strange trend. Of course, Eddie saves the day and gets a gold star for his bravery. I just don't get it. I'm definitely not a racist, but this is a concept I just don't *get*. Morgan Freeman's character, God, walking on water and takes a vacation, while Jim Carrey bumbles through the situation. Are the filmmakers trying to appease the black audience by making the white character look like an imbecile? Damned good question.

Morgan Freeman is stereotyped as an actor, but there is something very endearing about him.

Isn't he a cool actor? It seems like he is doing a very good job, though.
