Is AC/DC overrated?

My friends feel that ac/dc is overrated because they think all of their songs sound exactly the same and I kind of disagree.

No, AC/DC aren't overrated. In fact, too many people don't give them their proper due. Do they use the same chord changes, drum beats, and basslines over and over? Yes, they do. But they're experts at taking simple ingredients and making them into masterpieces.

AC/DC are also one of the most solid and powerful bands to see live as well. The pocket between Malcolm Young, Phil Rudd, and Cliff Williams is rock solid, and few guitarists have the sheer gut wrenching qualities that Angus has when playing a lead.

If anything, people's opinions are overrated. They'll point out how much better and more complex Tool are or Coheed and Cambria, et al., and dismiss AC/DC as old-fashioned or too predictable. In that case, people with these kinds of opinions should really challenge themselves and listen to John Coltrane or Stravinsky.

If anything, they're a bit UNDERrated, IMO. They don't get half the attention bands like Led Zepp or The Stones get & few can even name the members.

They've only been trendy in recent years because their name has become a trademark. All these "hip" kid wearing their tees & likely not having a clue what AC/DC wrote.

As for their songs sounding the same, yeah. Even the band admits they've done the "same album for 30 years"....but they also know that's exactly what the fans want. :)

& I'll add, at least they HAVE their own sound. Unlike so many mainstream bands now where everyone is pop punk or emo.

No...Rap is overrated because they all look, sound and act the same. Overrated? AC/DC had one of the greatest and best selling albums of all time with Back in Black. How can that be called overrated?

I disagree. Their songs don't sound exactly the same. They are also not overrated. They have their own style, and sound, but most great bands do. Led Zeppelin, Queen, Van Halen. Your friends probably don't know much about music.

The Stuff from 74 to 80 did not sound the same. I agree that they have only put out one decent album since 1980 "Back in Black". They still have a place in Rock and Roll History

AC/DC is THE most rock and roll band ever. And anyone who says they are overrated must have only listened to "Back In Black" or something....Check out their material with Bon Scott, it's kick ***.

they're not overrated. i saw them in concert with my dad (of all people) a few years ago, and they rocked more than most bands i've seen live. they were and are still a huge influence to a lot of hard rock bands, and their music is great for a band that's just starting to play together, since it's all so simple and basic and stripped down. but yeah, a lot of their songs definitely sound the same... same chords, same time signature, same bass line... i don't care. they still rock.

WTF that is so messed up AC/DC is freakin amazing your friend is probadly a FOB or a my chem fan AC/DC has many different styles highway to hell hells bells and big balls how r they similar except for the name but the style is different and plus their songs have to sound a little similar of they wouldnt be recognized for their sound so u can be likkethats AC/DC when u hear them on the radio DUHHHHHH!

NO! AC/DC is underrated, people listen to "back in black" and think that's their only song and start hating them, listen to thudnerstruck, highway to hell, hells bells, you shook me all night long...and most of all for those about to rock! ^^
