What is up with everyone concerning steroids in baseball the last couple of days? I heard last week, Fernando Vina and Buster Olney both say they would vote for Sammy Sosa for the Hall of Fame, Olney I think said he even votes for the hall. Then on ESPN radio on Saturday I heard Mel Kiper, Jr., and the host both saying Barry Bonds deserves to be in the hall. What happened to the outcry from last year about all the cheaters in baseball? The outcry was so great Mark McGwire, who holds the rookie home run record at 49, that it kept him out of the hall on the first ballot. Are all the voters ready to say they are hypocrites or is it because of the fact of the color of the skin and the voters are afraid they will be called racists?

Good question. I think it does reek of political correctness. Barry Bonds used steroids, and all the ESPN people are sucking on his nuts because they are disgruntled athletes. Sammy Sosa is a phony. I hate him, and he used steroids as well. No one wants to admit it, and yet the commentators pander to the users to cover their own butts. It's disgraceful.

We're in for some tough sledding here, because the voters have incomplete information. We don't know who was on what, and we're not sure what the punishment is.

Barry Bonds was clearly headed to the Hall of Fame even before he started bulked up. He became a home-run hitter after that. Unless you are very strict about such matters --- and remember, steroids were not technically illegal -- than I could see a good case for Bonds.

Part of McGwire's problem was his non-testimony in Congress, which made him look so bad. And Sosa is having the same problem, although coming back and hitting a few homers this year may have rehabilitated his reputation a bit. Rafael Palmiero is going to have trouble getting in.

It's a complicated, messy issue, and there are no clear standards. So little will make sense in regard to the Hall of Fame in the years ahead.

Bonds is clearly in!! Before the roid use he was in!! He already had 3 mvp's and 9 gold gloves. Every player to ever have that many awards is in the HOF. Every last one so he's in regardless. Sosa I say no but that is debatable. When did he start using roids? I think he started before he got good. And he also got caught with a corked bat; remember?!?! McGwire only hit HR's and probably started roids real early in his career like sammy. Bonds if he is proven which is'nt 100% quite yet he started roids late in his career after he was already a legend to try to keep up with the sosa, mcgwire, caminiti, juan gone's of the world.

McGwire might had gotten more votes if Cal Ripkin Jr. and Tony Gywnn weren't also first year inductees. We'll know more about his chances getting in the HOF next year since there's a less than impressive group of first time eligible players. I'd say it's a good guess he'll get a lot more votes. How many depends on how many are still concerned about his alleged steroid use.

Look at the numbers. Bonds is first ballot no doubter and has nothing to do with hypocrites or racists. Mcgwire on the other hand hasnt got hof numbers in any category except homers which is the category in which he cheated. Mcgwire out Bonds in Sosa????? tough call on sosa.

Yes. The steroid nay sayers have to acquiesce to the fact that the issue was so muddled by Selig and the owners -- to say nothing of the Players Association -- that unless you have the goods on someone, you have to let him in. Also, the only thing to keep a guy out permanently is betting. It should be a list of 2 with PEDs on it, but that'll be the day. God damn steroids anyway.

Mcgwire simply wasn't as good as Sosa or Bonds.

He has less homeruns, rbi's, sb's, runs scored, hits, and a lower batting average and on base percentage than both Bonds and Sosa.

Career OBP (Bonds, Sosa through 22-June-2007)

Bonds .444 (6th all-time)
McGwire .394 (78th all-time)
Sosa .344 (715th all-time)

You could look it up.

why wouldn't Bonds go in? He has numerous gold gloves and MVP awards. granted he hasn't confessed to steroid use, however its apparent that he did. I could care less if he gets voted in or not. No one knows how many current hall of famers took steroids. i say if it wasn't traced to the past, they shouldn't punish the future

My whole view of the hitters on steriods is that they hit those balls off of PITCHERS ON ROIDS. Which players got busted when the tests were put into place? Pitchers! They all deserve to get in. It was the steriod era, bfd. Before that it was the cocaine era, and those crackheads got in.
