When I was a kid it really scared me a lot. It would shake our house so bad, making the windows rattle and I just knew it was a tornado. The Wizard of Oz traumatized me the first few times I saw it. We also had a old phone that sometimes lightning would strike the line outside and travel through the line and down to the phone itself and knock the phone off the hook. One time it actually blew the phone up into pieces. And yes, there was always the loud thunder that followed each time.
I am much braver now days and find myself comforting my own kids the way my parents did me.(that is, once I climb out of the closet and find them, hah hah)

No, but I do jump when a loud clap of thunder is unexpected. Now lightning is another thing.

Only when it means the evil tree is going to crash through my window and eat me .... ah, Poltergeist has instilled the fear of thunder and clowns.
